Sounds like absolute bull to me... do you seriously think ANY console or even PC could display 5,000 users jumping and leaping as they try to fry the crud out of each other?? It's simply too much. The poly count per character would have to be so low that they'd look like PS1 or N64 characters. I'll bet come release time the number will probably drop done to 100. Though, that's still nuts!!

yes 5,000 is way too much for console to handle.

Um, have you guys played planetside? Or heard of it? It was the same kind of game cept only on PC, it had thousands of people playing it. As for 5000 people playing at the same time, who says they can't? Do you know what the hardware is capable of? Obviously they would know more given they are developing the game!

That said I think this game is doomed to fail. First off because it is pay to play besides paying for live. Second because it is a MMOFPS and Planetside is a good example of what happens to a game like this, it fails. Third they are talking about mixing PC and Xbox gamers together, so that you play with and against each other. Sucks for Xbox gamers.

I won' be getting this game if I buy an xbox. But at least they are being original, sort of.

there was a nice looking game in beta a while ago that did 10,000 players on a single server, all playing the same game. The project was scraped in beta though because the company couldnt pay for the bandwidth.

so to all thee who think its a bunch of bull, you need to read up on mmorpg technologies

Yeah, that's true, online isn't where my knowledge base is, so I prolly shouldn't talk to much. As to those other games... ... I think there's a key difference... 5,000 10,000 whatever on a single server isn't out of the question, but having 5,000 people go hed-to-head still seems impossible. You'd have to have a service that can provide enough bandwidth for the information of 4,999 players... that's quite a bit. Unless they design the game so that you can't have, say, 30 or more charactetrs within reach of eachother at any one point... but then the 5,000 is just a statistic not actually any merit.

It seems inpossible but it will also be LOADS of fun. I want to try this game out for sure. I want to experience this myself. See how it goes and all. Graphics seem top of the line to me.

I'm still curious as to why this could not be done on the PS3.

As opposed to the Xbox?? I thnik people don't really know all that much about the PS3s online capabilties, and Sony is being very selective as to who they're giving kits to... my guess is that they have no clue what the PS3 can do and given the PS2 vs XBox they prolly figure X2 will be better with online.

If that's the kind of graphics we're gonna see out of next-gen... I pass.

Since this is only an early build, I guess I can forgive them.

That is miles ahead of what most MMO games have even in the PC real right now.

Just take a look at World of Warcraft, Everquest II, or Planetside. Then consider that this game will be running a lot more intensive battles.

Not saying that I wouldn't like it to look better too, but take each game for what it's worth. Would you rather them have models super detailed and made of millions of polygons like Doom3 and have it run at a snails pace, or have them be a little lower detail than average and run nice and smooth with a couple hundred players on the screen?

Siren, the people at TXB said that this game could only be done on the X360. Why is that, do you know?

it probably can be done with sony but with current information it couldnt.

5,000 is low. There is a game coming out to over 30,000 in one game.

First off: 5,000 players are not low just lower than you 30,000 claim (if even real)

Second: This idea is great!! Its crazy, I mean M$ seems to be taking the underground hardcore gamer audience since March. Sony better come with a bang in May, because I swear M$ is doing BIG things.

Third: Lets wait till E3. Something tells me that the 5,000 player number in some why or form will decrease. But if it doesn't then that will truly be 'Unreal'.

You guys have to understand that first of all were not going to be hosting the game. The people who created the game is going to be hosting them via there servers which they said they have located all around the world. Also the guy said that it will be 5,000 players per server. He didn't say it would be easy either.

I guess you’ll make an extensive use of UE3’s Seamless World Support feature, recently demoed at GDC. What kind of technology have you developed to adapt the UE3 to a MMO genre?

Kijong Kang: The most important thing is network technologies. As the Unreal 3 Engine is mainly designed for single player and MO games, we need to develop a network system that supports more than five thousands players per server. Our own network layer will be added.

While thousands of players connect to servers, real-time lighting systems of UE3’s Engine will be a burden to the servers. It’s our goal to develop new technologies to handle these issues specific to MMO game features.

The Xbox live service will never have that much members on line because Network addresses have only 254 on one address then they will need another sever and another address.

There is a difference to 5000 players being on one server and having 5000 players on one screen/place please remember this

    [LIVE] flOw release date announced

flOw will be available on PlayStation Store from December 19th.

Originally a flash-based game, flOw is developed by thatgamecompany and will be exclusively sold on PS3's Network Platform, for an undisclosed price.

The flash game can still be played on the developer's website. The original version was created as part of a research project for thatgamecompany co-founder Jenova Chen.

In more good news, the developer has made an agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment America to bring three more titles to PlayStation Store. The deal includes working at Sony's Santa Monica headquarters.
