also the psx uses memory sticks and since sony developed them it makes sense to do that and by the way i cant do that ps2 mod thing since i cant find the software![]()

08-12-2004 #27No, PS3 is very likely to have a hard drive. This is because Sony are so keen on online gaming and a harddrive can be a very useful tool when using the internet. Plus it speeds up loading times.

Blah!
Here's my speculation of the PS3
I make bad speculations, just like the one in my sig hahahahahaha
Speculation...
The Playstation 3 will use the Hard Drive for either saves or patches, you have an option to save to a memory card for different uses as traveling, the PS3's hard drive will be removable so you can upgrade with the HDs Sony provides. the Memory Card will attain the same little rectangular compact so that it would work with all previous memory cards, MC1,2...The Playstation 3 Hard Drive would be used "mostly" for the online portion and the downloading of patches, thus a big 30-50 GB Hard Drive, and an upgrade since it would incorporate MP3s, and all the software, the PS3's Hard Drive will be the software of most the things, Sony Online-DVD Region ?-MP3 Ripper-DVD Burn O_O-and the patches and upgrades of course.
The memory card is there so you can take it on the go and transfer with you're friends without having to bring the whole PS3 with you, in which case if you decide to bring the PS3 with you then there are USB Ports so you can connect both the PS3s together and it can transfer saves
Besides the PS3 will incorporate the same size control, just like Dual Shock ^_^ so that any previous products work too...just that not all of them will
Sooo it's very likely that the PS3 will include "BOTH" Hard Drives and Memory Cards of the same size.

This is what i think would happen:
Assuming the 2 versions idea is true, then the upper version will incorporate a HDD, because of all the features such as burning DVD, recording TV etc. these would require a HDD.
I also think the lower version will not have a HDD, but will use memory sticks which will replace the magic gate card (AKA memory card) as a form of saving data, but the lower version will be able to have a HDD just like the PS2, it's not ready built in.

I have doubts that there will be 2 versions, more-likely a newer PSX instead of the flopped one...different systems...

i dont agree with 2 versions because then 1 would have more options in a game then others such as having a HDD when the other doesnt then online play for the other would be crap because you cant get patches so if there is 2 versions they will both probably have a HDD

It would be really nice if they do use a hardrive liek 80 gigs and memory sticks too cause u might want something that u saved on ur hard drive to transfer it to a friends or something liek that and would seem really usefull indeed ... or maybe even have interaction with a computer or something? wouldn't that liek be cool!

sure!!! that's a good thing you know...soooo I'm thinking like 50 gig hd? maybe?
I dunno...let's hope no 2 versions, and the complete deal for 349.95 like my sig

08-13-2004 #34Lol ... yah same here I would hate it if they had 2 versions cause then thier would be a bit a confusion going(Ofcousre I will be getting the superior model if it does happen

Remember 20 gigs right ... got doubled to 40 gigs ... which in turn can only be doubled etc ... 80 gigs ... 80 gigs x 2 = 160 ... 160 gigs x 2 = 320 ... 320 gigs x 2= 640 gigs etc ...
Which I'm not sure if we have reached those high points?
So pretty much thas the ruled and it cannot be broken cause thier liek not manutured in different sizes ...
Also may I state as I am an A+ year 12 student aiming to do Medical Science ... that moores's law states that microprocessors speeds double in every 12 month to an 18 month period. Thus making data density double every 18 months too.
Current Science states that they expect Moore's Law to hold for at least another two decades.
Now thas a long freakin wait till one day we can hopefully prove moore wrong but not for a damn long time

Then why do I have a 180Gig hardrive?
-
08-13-2004 #36
Mores law has nothing to do with Hard Drive memory capacity. Hard Drives don't have transistor gaps like processors do, which is what Mores Law applies to. Hard Drives get bigger as silicon engineering techniques improve, not as transistor gaps get smaller, like in the example of a computer processor.
Also HD's memory capacity doesn't always double. There size is not set in stone. It's quite easy to find 10GB, 20GB, 30GB, 40GB, 50GB, 60GB, 80GB and 100 GB size Hard Drives.

08-13-2004 #37Dude I neva said that nor was I referring my statement to hard drives I was referring it to microprocessors. If u would have read my post properly u would have understood!

So your trying to sound like a guru. If you read in the rules the forums you'll see we could do without gurus/know it alls. Basically people trying to sound intellegent and posting information that is not needed at that moment....something like that.

Ooook....welll that was wierd...HDs come in 10-60, then they skipped up to 80,100,120,150,200,250,300,350
*Sooo they "can" do 50, but maybe a 60 or eighty...since it'd have a tv tuner and stuff...but I don't think that's nesscessary...just a freaking PSXtreme if they have 2 hahahaha...PSX/PS3 same difference big deal -.-

I don't really mind this stuff coming up again, it really just shows how peoples opinions and expectations have changed over time.
For instance, Morpheus was right on the money here.
