SourceAs this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) draws closer, more and more details regarding Microsoft’s Xbox successor come to light.
It seems that Microsoft is making a serious push for the “HD Era” that J Allard boasted of at this year’s Game Developers Conference. Several of our sources have told us that Microsoft has outlined very strict technical requirements when showcasing Xbox 360 titles at this year’s E3.
In order to fully demonstrate the visual prowess of the new console, Xbox 360 games will not be displayed on regular TVs, which means no SDTV or EDTV sets (although the console can utilize such technology), and it is mandatory that the displays used in the E3 demonstrations are HDTV-ready and not just HDTV compatible.
You should know that many of the flat panel screens that are sold as HD capable are only “HDTV Compatible”, which means they can display HDTV signals but they resize the image to the panel’s native resolution, which sometimes is lower than the minimum HDTV spec, 720p. Full HDTV Ready displays are those TVs that have a built-in HDTV tuner (ex: ATSC tuners for over-the-air HD reception, CableCARD™ slots for cable HDTV), DVI and HDMI inputs, and a panel with a 1920x1080 native resolution, which allows the TV to display any HDTV signal without having to compress the image.
Several sources have informed us that Microsoft is demanding that companies display Xbox 360 games at E3 on equipment with a minimum resolution of 720 physical lines. We have yet to learn if Microsoft is requiring any type of specific audio capabilities during demos, such as a Dolby Digital 5.1 system.
It looks like as far as Microsoft is concerned, the “HD Era” truly has begun.
Now for everyone to live up to their word. What did you say last time when Microsoft said "HD Era" again?
*Hits J. Allard in the face* Yeahhhhh, that's what I'm talking about...
Lol, but this time I think they really mean it.![]()

last time MS made the option available but they didnt enforce ppl to make games HD. only thing they required was 480P and some games missed that too.
also didnt amke sense for devs to spend their hard time into making a HD game when only a small percentage of the population had a HDTV and an xbox to go with it.
much different this time around with that 2007, HD signal requirement for all TV broadcast companies, approaching soon

I know many people that have HDTVs but none of them would play Xbox or PS2 on it. Some would but not all. So it is kinda wasting time. Unless the developers want to do it.

Thats probably because they had to go out and hunt for the HD-AV cables.

You know, one thing that kinda confuses me is this concept that HD TVs are now price friendly... I was checking best buy and the cheapest decent (it's amazing how many lie their but off) HDTV was $400. Is that cheap?? Maybe I'm poor, but that seems like a heck of a lot. So I'm curious has the "HD-Era" really arrived?? I know, at the least, I'm a couple of years off, unless my TV breaks. Perhaps my world view on this is a bit small?? Any thoughts??
Also, just to rant a little, let me tell you my TV is JUNK... ever try playing a game where you literally see black for a screen?? THAT's how dim the picture is. I have to wait till night and turn off all the lights so my eyes adjust and I can finally see the screen. I've actually thought on occasion of "accidentally" dropping it and saying oops... need a new one... but then I just wouldn't have a TV... ... ---______---

For a good HDTV think about shelling out around 900-1200 bucks.
High end usually around the 3 and 4k

I have a 32 Sony HD. I got it for around $900 on sale, and I play PS2 on it all the time. It actually made the games look worse once I hooked them up with component cables. I'm just waiting for the PS3 now.

alright a TRUE HDTV has a resolution of 1920x1080 . Thats the resolution of 1080i
you will not find a 42" flat tv like this under $4,000. All of those TVs that have lower resolutions but display 1080i are just fitting the image to the TV.
some will say though that 720p is better than 1080i becuase of its progressive scan. 720p has a resolution of 1280x720. Most 42" HDTVs that you find today are under $3,000 and have this resolution. TVs that are under this resolution are usualy considered EDTV because they just fit the image to whatever resolution they may be. Most of these TVs are 1024x760 and under
However there is now 1080P tvs. These tvs feature the 1920x1080 resolution and also scan the resolution progressive. These TVS are the Ultimate in HD and rarely seen below $6000 for a 42 inch.

Best 1080p picture is on the Sony Qualia 004 projector but you've got to shell out 35,000 dollars.
Sony also offer the highest resolution on a projector, 4096 x 2160 but you've got to shell out 105,000 dollars, that would be a sweet setup though[Currently looking for an applicable banner]

you are only looking at flat screen. Also if you are seriously looking to purchase a new HDTV, do not get a regular square one, but one with the 16x9 "widescreen" resolution.
I got the largest CRT widescreen HDTV (36") made by Sony for round 2,000 couple years back. I see the largest they make now is 34" for about the same price. I got the CRT (tube tv) becuase I cannot afford Plasma or LCD at this time, and do not like projection tv's even though you can get a much larger projection widescreen HDTV for alot less. One high-profile developer who has seen both the PS3 and XBox 2 technology recentley whispered into my innocent ear, "The next PlayStation is way, way, more powerful than Xbox 2. It's insanely powerful."... Source E.G.M.

[LIVE] PS3 Linux runs Wiimote as a mouse
In a recent public demonstration of the PS3 running Linux, a PS3 spokesperson was showing off the Linux capabilities of the PS3, and used a Wiimote as a mouse. Nintendo's wireless remote/controller was plugged into one of the PS3s spare USB ports, and functioned identically as it would on the Wii itself.
HOST THE IMAGES ON THE WEBSITE AND PUT THEM IN THE ARTICLE.

According to www.qj.ps3.net, all that is needed to use the Wiimote on a PS3 is an install of Linux, and the proper drivers. Given this is all functioning in Linux, it is highly unlikely that the Wiimote would work while playing a regular PS3 game.
