Having a problem. Just bought western digital HDD (750gb) and everything seems to work just fine, except right now I'm trying to install Okami HD and its taking far too long, ages. 75% ready and 30 minutes has gone now. I presume I have a faulty HDD then, even thought everything else works?

the ps3 being a bit old now, will a more modern 1TB drive work? (on any model of the ps3) or are we limited to what sizes sony offers?

Due to the original limitations of the PS3 hardware design, a SSD would perform almost the same as a 7200rpm HDD, sometimes it might be an extra 1 or 2 seconds faster but you might not notice.

Definitely not worth the high price of SSD

You could technically put in a 2.5inch laptop HDD bigger than 1TB however it must be no more than 9.5mm thick and if it's say a 1.5TB HDD, only 999GB would be technically visible as capacity, so basically you only get like maybe 30 extra GB of data as an estimation of going with a 1.5TB HDD over say a 1TB HDD.

A 1TB HDD is a good option... I've got a 1TB 7200RPM HDD in My PS3 Slim (2009) and it is around 20% faster loading than the stock 5400rpm HDD that it came with, PS STORE is very fast and responsive and games load quicker and some games play smoother, makes a difference!!.

would it not be more of a hassle to now find a new HDD instead of actually just getting a mounting bracket? they go for cheap on ebay.

I just put a 1tb into my ps4 and dropped that 500gb drive into my ps3 tonight. First time I ever upgraded it and I can't believe how easy it was. With all the help on these forums you can't miss.
