    Singstar Store Songs

Ok, Another Singstar Store update and another bunch of artists I've never heard of. At this point I actually counted and found out that of the 160 artists you can download from the store, only 62 are artists I've heard of. That's less than 40%. And nearly half of the 62 I've heard of are either one hit wonders (whom I really only know the song and not the artist/band) or artists that most people haven't heard of but for whatever reason I came across them ONCE or TWICE in my life. Are these all European artists? Are they indie artists? What's going on here??? Doesn't Sony own their own Record label???? At this point there are only 6-7 songs in the entire game that I actually really enjoy singing. The rest that I even sing at all are just songs that I don't mind singing. Even a lot of the songs I've heard of and actually consider good or decent music aren't necessarily good/fun songs to sing. It took them an extra year to release this for the US and now they're just dumping a bunch of crap music on us. I'm starting to get frustrated.

I was so ticked off over this point, and the fact that the majority of the songs my wife and I had never ever heard of, so I sold my singstar bundle to a guy at work. Maybe what sent me over the edge was when Europe got Queen and we got shafted, Queen are my wife and my favorite band from that era.

So, I'm glad I only spent about 4.50 on additional songs from the singstore, and when two singstore updates failed to please, I sold.

I have around 70 sounds at the moment and as queen and the ting tings have just appeared i will have a few more as well. Songs were pretty slow to come at first but they we are getting reasonable updates now. Can't really comment on what you you are getting in NA as i haven't seen the list. I will say don't buy vol 2 as the extras seem to have been bundled in the update and the songs on the first disk are going online so i guess the second will follow.

The game just came out in our region so the North American music will be coming. It has been out for months in Europe so the majority of the songs are for the larger European base. Give it time is what I'm saying...

I totally agree with the OP. SingStar has sooooo much potential to make money but they are Fing it up ROYALLY!!! I was seriously thinking that this game would be a replacement for a karaoke machine, but so far have been VERY disappointed in the songs I can purchase. I can even tolerate the fact that songs are $1.50 a piece compared to actual karaoke machines that are $1 or less for songs. So far, this game has been a flop for me.

I know a lot of the artists but I also don't know a lot of the artists. As for the song selection...yeah I expected more from Sony. Way to utilize that Sony/BMG catalogue there.

Also, a matter or personally pissing me off. A few weeks before Singstar came out in the states there was a list of songs available to download. The Flaming Lips "Yeah Yeah Yeah" song was on that list.

Every song on that list was released...except the Flaming Lips song. WTF! One of the reasons I bought the game.

p.s. Also, would it hurt to get some country songs for those that want them? My girlfriends wants some Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, etc.

That's kind of what I meant by even some of the good music isn't good singing music. Singers like the ones you mentioned, Mariah Carey, Usher, Christina Aguilara, Michael Jackson, Joss Stone, Chicago, Marvin Gaye, Journey, THE BEATLES, etc are singers/bands that are FUN TO SING. They do have some Billy Joel and he's pretty fun to sing but he's one of the few they have. Uggghhh

I totally agree. It's so upsetting when people ask, "no Michael, no Madonna? BEATLES?! really?"

And I'm upset that there are songs on the European store that we just don't have, especially when I can hop on the singstore and hear them playing those songs.

They got eminem before us, really?

I'll be patient though I guess.

Yeah, I totally agree. I have like five songs that I have heard of out of 36. And the store is hopeless.

I'm European and neither my wife nor I have heard of most of the artists either. We never even play Singstar any more.

Sony's divisions pretty much operate separately. Spiderman The Movie games are a Sony pictures movie, yet you see the game on every platform.

I believe there are some licenses Sony cannot get due to being in Konami's hands in the U.S. (like Michael Jackson). SCEE London does handle the songs, so more of them are likely to target Europe first in this case (I believe SCEA has next to no say on what SingStar gets).

I don't see a problem with not knowing every artist in the game, because I've actually discovered many awesome music when I previewed it (which the game has). I never knew D.J. BoBo and songs by other artist, but when I saw the video, I liked it and felt it seemed fun, so I bought and really liked them.

I really like it. It has been my most played PS3 game so far. The SingStar community rocks and there are tons of awesome downloads. Despite what people say, I'd say roughly 40% is still known. There's awesome variety too.
