New Hands on impressions from G4:
__________________________________________________ ______________Hands On: 'Mega Man 9'

Don't be surprised if you see the Blue Bomber shoot off tic-tacs in his latest, upcoming game, Mega Man 9. Capcom has graced the many retro-game lovers by giving their beloved franchise the classic look and feel we have been missing since we fell in love with the series on its first installment (that's right, love, spread a little).
And we bring you hands on demo of the game's E3 build. Hit the jump.
Classic Look, Classic Play: Remember the time when you first drop in Woods Man's stage in Mega Man 2 for the NES? Well folks, this game is pure nostalgia. We played a stage in the demo that looks similar to Woods Man's stage and it was absolutely refreshing. Like hearing a certain tune that takes you way back in your early days, Mega Man 9 will play that exact symphony for you. The classic sprites was exactly the way you remembered and the controls still remain the same since Mega Man 2.
We had our d-pad, a button to shoot and a button to jump - that's it. The game didn't implement any special slide moves, wall jumps or charge shots. Not only that, familiar enemies are back as well, including those little dudes with the yellow hats that peek out and shoot Mentos at you. The game also had the mid-level sub-bosses that required a great amount of expertise and pattern for you to defeat. As far as platforming elements, some enemies would still lead you to many, many deaths as you try to leap over a gap and suddenly an enemy would pop up and attack you - leading the little blue guy to a pit of death. Also, the vanishing blocks are back with the same sound effects! The Capcom rep said that Mega Man 2 was the leading influence in developing this latest installment, as many considered that it was the series's best.

By Frank Caron | Published: June 27, 2008 - 10:59AM CT
Now that Nintendo's WiiWare has leveled the playing field across the board for downloadable content, it was only a matter of time before a game would be slated to hit all three console platforms simultaneously.
Capcom will be the first to take the plunge, as the company has announced that Megaman 9 will be hitting the PlayStation Network, the Xbox Live Arcade, and Wiiware.
Megaman 9 is currently on the company's E3 roster, listed as a PSN and XBLA release. However, leaked scans from the latest edition of Nintendo Power reveal that the title is also going to be heading to WiiWare. Megaman 9 returns the series to its 2D roots, opting for classic sprites and old-school gameplay rather than glitz and glamor. Imagine that: a brand new "retro" release. But, for Blue Bomber fans, this may be just what the doctor ordered.
According to the text of the article, the game is being developed by Inti Creates, a group of long lost Capcom employees who worked on the Megaman Zero and Megaman ZX franchises. Expect further coverage of the title to follow, as well as impressions from E3 later in July.
Another article:
Link: http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=195228After 12 long years, the first proper sequel to 1996's Mega Man 8 for the original PlayStation is coming to WiiWare, and it's rocking 8-bit graphics and sound!

According to the newest issue of Nintendo Power, Mega Man 9 is soon coming to WiiWare, Nintendo's original downloadable game service. And while the levels, story, and character roster is new, the game is being developed using 8-bit technology.
"We're not just giving you Mega Man 9, we're giving you a new NES game," says series creator and Capcom developer Keiji Inafune, in an interview with Nintendo Power. "This is a game that brings back the fun of the old games, and I hope you all enjoy it!"
According to the issue, the game will be controlled holding the Wii Remote sideways, and will feature eight Robot Master bosses, namely Magma Man, Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Concrete Man, Hornet Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man, and Splash Woman -- the first female Robot Master.
Earlier this month, the Australian Classification Board listed the still unannounced Mega Man 9 as a "G" rated multiplatform game.

I love this idea as a long time mega man fan. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it, but I am definitely getting this when it comes out.
Thanks for giving me credit, that was very cool of you

I would probably be willing to pay $5 for it, seeing as how it's a reworked game instead of just the same old MM9 brought up to emulation or w/e on the new consoles. However, I woulnd't go farther than that. Now, if they reworked the early Megaman X games(X-X3)...that would be a different story, I would probably pay $10 for those

I'll get it if it's completely 2D polished.
Other than that I'll stick to emulation. Doesn't seem justified to me to pay for something so dated.

That is pretty sweet. I was playing some of the older ones the other night on a virtual nes website.
Think I might be getting it dephending on the price. I didn't see it in the article, but I might just be blind.
Always fun to have new psp games. I'm not in the custom firmware as of yet so no emulation on that beast for me.

I'd rather Capcom release a high-definition version of the original Mega Man instead of a 'new' game altogether. 8-bit games have no place in todays world, however sad that may be.

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

it's not coming to PSN. It's Wii-ware exclusive. http://videogameplayerz.net/content/...ware-exclusive

It's multiplatform, and inded 8-bit.
http://www.qj.net/Mega-Man-9-confirm.../49/aid/122047Now here's something that would make the fans of the Blue Bomber happy: do you remember our previous report about Capcom's Mega Man 9 being a WiiWare exclusive? Well, here's another update concerning that tidbit: Mega Man's latest adventure does turn out to be a multiplatform affair after all.
The game will also be available through PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.
Here are some details on the upcoming Mega Man 9: aside from the robot masters that we have mentioned in a previous article (Magma Man, Concrete Man, Splash Woman, etc.), the game will also feature 50 new enemy robots.
To spice things up even more, Mega Man 9 will include an online leaderboard system that will tally and size up every player's performances against each other. Yes, we also agree that it's a sweet deal.
That's not the only bombshell that Capcom will be doling out for the Mega Man fans, however - the first two games in the series, Mega Man 1 and 2, will also be hitting the Wii's Virtual Console service in the near future. Awesome? Yes, it is indeed.
In the meantime, watch Mega Man's world debut trailer, featuring 8-bit cutscenes that seem to be taken from the opening sequence in the game. Play it, and let nostalgia drown you.

I thought the PSN/XBLA "confirmation" was debunked.
-

Ok now I'm just confused. I figured Megaman 9 would be a step up from 7 and 8. This seems to be a return to NES style. This is seriously the way they've decided to take this?

Way to go evolution! They are now making 8 bits games for a PS3 GPU powered console! lolll We come full circle I expect to play Pong on the ps4 in a few years!

Wow, so a Wii exclusive is going multiplatform? Now, I've seen EVERYTHING!
Ah, and confirmation straight from a Capcom dev. that Mega Man 9 is indeed coming to the PSN!
Mega man on PSN would be nice!
Even if Capcom sucked lately with the ps3… i was planning to buy BC Rearmed anyway, it looks an old good classic
