Trophies to now make a SOUND when unlocked.

Looks like Sony thought, ah crap we forgot to add sound!

Good grief. We received more tips about this than any other aspect of firmware 2.40, including yesterday's walkthrough videos. We'll take that to mean that many of you guys are as pleased as we are to hear that not only will unlocking a trophy bring up a visual notification in the top right hand corner of the screen, but an aural alert will also play. This has been confirmed by an update to the FAQ on the PlayStation Blog.

This completes the trophy experience and considerably lowers the chances of us missing a trophy notification when we're particularly engrossed in a game. The question is, what does it sound like? We'll find out tomorrow when the firmware goes live.

It all depends on what the sound is. This could be cool or annoying. I doubt that anyone would be unlocking too many trophies at once though for it to get too annoying if it sucks. Hopefully it will be a good sound though.

I agree... it could also be bad for the vision of the game to have some annoying standard bleep, song or chord playing... I'd prefer that devs had the ability to change the sounds so that they make sense within the game, or for the trophy being awarded. (esp. for epic games like MGS4)


On the other hand, having a standard sound just means that the sounds can be stored on the HDD instead of on the disc, saving disc bandwidth :-p
so again, I agree, just turn off the sound if the publisher/user wants to.
