That means you received +rep. There is a glitch that shows you have a PM when you actually do not. Sometimes you really do have a message, other times it is just +rep you received.

This thread directly addresses that change. It was causing problems with the site, and therefore interest has been removed altogether.

only reason this could be is one of the mods might be deleting them, but no idea why they would do that

If you go to user cp in the profile drop down list at the top of the page and then go to general settings you can set your default thread subscription mode so it automatically subscribes you to threads you post in and you can then view these in your user cp.
