yea definite ffxii and shadow of the colossus
shadow just sets a wonderful scale with the sheer size of certain things
ffxii's open world is just a bit better than the rest in terms of rendering the creatures/interaction of the spells

Shadow of the Colossus - the game has normal mapping. NORMAL MAPPING on the PS2. Yeah, that was supposed to be impossible. Beyond impossible. But they did it, as well as did incredible lighting and draw distance at 20-25fps. Shadow of the Colossus is perhaps the greatest technological achievement in the history of gaming. Just because of what it accomplished with the incredible limitations of the system it accomplished it on.
Okami - plain beautiful game in every way imaginable.__________________________________________________ _____________________________

Did it, where?
Need to check it out someday.
Also it was never impossible, more like not the worth of the trouble.
I would agree that there were many things in the game that were impressive, for me the most important were low lod method used for far away scenery, which did bypass the problem of bad mipmapping hardware.
Also the animation things the game did were pretty incredible.

Best graphical game on PS2
Look at Targets black friday ad. They are going to have Halo 3 on sale for 29.99. I already ordered it online for full price then I will just go into the the store on black friday to have the price ajusted. I dont remember the other games on sale. Halo 3 is the only game my son requested this year. HTH

There is a lot of games I know that stand out as having awesome graphics. But the only games that I think are the best imo, is the GOW 1 & 2, SotC.

Best graphical game for the PS2 that I've seen was either Resident Evil 4 and SoTC.

I agree with those that said FFXII and MGS3. And, despite not being as strong technically. FFX is still aesthetically pleasing.
I also have to add that FFXI also looks great.

Ok, so I'll go a different route. I'll say Alien Homonid. It's a fun game, reminiscent of the Contra and--especially graphically--the Metal Slug games. I honestly can't think of how they could've improved on the graphics from an "animation" perspective. I also liked Jak 3--pretty cool (image 3 below).

Alien Hominid indeed looks very cool, great style and crisp graphics BUT it isn't a big acomplishment to make them look like that God of War 2 and Resident Evil 4 are the best of the best when it comes to high quality graphics on the PS2 imho
