    Ps3-To play Ps1-Ps2-Ps3-N64-Nes-Snes,64, possibly more?

I suspect the ps3 will be able to play the following game systems, some of which through emulators. Perhaps they could create emulators for gamecube and xbox ? My reasoning behind this is the fact that you can run windows on the Ps3.

    Playstation 1 - Disc(Ps1)
    Playstation 2 - Disc(Ps2)
    Playstation 3 - Disc(Ps3)
    Nintendo Entertainment System - Emulator(Nes)
Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Emulator(Snes)
    Nintendo 64 - Emulator(N64)
    Gameboy Normal/Color/Advanced/Ds? - Emulator
    Dreamcast
    Gamecube?
    Xbox?

And are there any working GC/Xbox emulators for the PC yet? Besides, why would you want to play games of consoles you already have? I'm assuming you're talking about using the emulators to play backups, not illegally downloaded games.

    What are you mother theresa?

It's okay for him to dream. Plus, who legally emulates games, c'mon.

We won't see anything legal from Nintendo or Microsoft on PS3.
On the other hand PC do run Windows and there is no emulator for XBOX, Dreamcast or Gamecube, while PS3 doesn't run Windows. Where is your point?

Is there any proof for this, or is simply another fabrication from the rabid minds of our forum member?

    Items PS3 SlimVita3DS
I think it is quite possible.
As PS3 will be able to run linux, some programmer might create an emulator for linux running on PS3.
Though the emulation would be played through linux, the player could be able to use the controller.
    Not a bad idea though.

Yes, but PS3 isn't going to run something like Debian or Red Hat is it?

By the way, There are plenty of system controllers such as snes, nes, a few other over at lik-sang that plug into usb ports, which the ps3 have.

-Cera, If the Ps3 can run OS X, It can run a debian or red hat linux setup.

I dunno about the Windows and PS3 thing anymore. They had a PS3 kiosk running Windows and they had to accomplish that somehow.

Unless of course that was just the Linux GUI that is specifically made to look just like Windows, previously called Lindows.

Anything is possible providing hackers with enough time and effort hack the PS3 and emulate all those things.

Do you really think Sony will let us run unsigned code on Linux (or at leat will full hardware support)? I'm sure its not gonna be open source either.
Yes, a lot could be done if PS3 gets modded, but until then you can forget about it.

I imagine that seeing as the HDD runs off Linux, it will happen illegally. I doubt that Nintendo will allow PS3 into one of Revolution's biggest appeal points (the ability to play back Nintendo's past console games). Microsoft will no way let PS3 into Xbox games either.

So while I'm certain it will happen illegally, Sony will never let it happen legally. Though if it does happen, they won't do anything about it

It might happen but it won't be legal. So it depends how loose Sony is on development under PS3's OS. I don't know how much control MS is supposed to have on programs being created on Windows on PC...though I'm guess they don't have any control over that and if they don't then there is a chance that Sony might not have control over development of software under PS3's OS.

Though one thing's for sure, it won't be "legal" and the emulators will not necessarily run their best either. Though I'd assume it'd still be easier than PC since PS3 is a console so if they fix one emulator, it will be fixed for all PS3 users.

StilL I can't say how eary or hard it would be, I do know that most emulation on PC is crap. Even 2D games sometimes don't run right.

The PS3 is supposed to be able to run virtual server software. With that said, a lot of operating systems and windows among them.

I am not sure where some of you got the idea that the PS3 will be able to run Windows, but it is flat out wrong!

As for OS X running on the PS3, again I am not sure where you came up with this, but it will not happen.

As far as the PS3 running emulators, this is entirely possible. Most likely you will see a nintendo emulator the same way that there is software to do this with the XBox. But it is highly unlikely that you will see and Dreamcast, Gamecube or Xbox emulators as the amount of work that would be needed will be way to much.

Actually the PS3 was first quoted by Sony at E3 2005 as being able to run Linux, Windows and many other OS's but nobody had believed them.
At GDC a kiosk was running XP which seems to confirm that it is possible to run Windows on the PS3 but unless you can run mulitple OS's on it then why bother having XP, i think i'd just stick with Linux. PS. Make no mistake Linux will still come standard on the HDD not Windows.
