Are we allowing posters to use M$ when referencing Microsoft now? I say this as I have seen a number of people using it lately, but not many warnings or infractions for it. The people using it has ranged from 'I didn't know better' newbies and people who have been here quite some time.

I will use M$ if I want to. I don't, but if I wanted to I should be able to. We don't live in a censored society.

would anyone here get annoyed if everyone in the 360 section started saying $ony? live and let live i say. if sony fans feel the need to use that spelling, it only serves to show how biased they are.

No, I asked a question. I didn't come up with any rule.
Your answer is vague.
You say it depends on the situation and then you say that using "$ony" has not been allowed also. Using "also" implies that using M$ is not permitted. So is it not permitted or is it dependent on the situation to use $ony & M$?

The constant usage of M$ is just a symbol of the general hatred/dislike of the 360, and Microsoft across most of the users in this forum.
I'd like to see it cracked down on, but it's indicative of the characteristics of the user as well. Obviously, this is just one of numerous mini-flamebait memes which are used on this forum against all three consoles.www.freerice.com - 20 grains of rice donated per answer

Is it really that big of a deal? What's demeaning about it? It means they're interested in money? Believe me any publicly traded company cares about money first and foremost. That includes both Sony and Microsoft.

The answer seemed obvious to me, but I see why you didn't get it. When I said "it depends on the situation" I was referring to whether saying it gets you an infraction or warning, not whether sometimes it's ok to say or not.
The use of either has been in the past, and I assume still is, prohibited.

While hatred/dislike for the 360 can be the reason, I see it more as hatred for how Microsoft buys their way into peoples homes. Buying exclusive games, content, etc. I think that's why we don't see $ONY as much, as they are not known for spending money to guarantee things.

i know this really isnt the place, but i seriously dont understand why such a tactic is so frowned upon. why is it ok for sony to simply buy a studio and then dictate how they make their games forever, but when MS buys a game leaving the studio itself free, everyone here calls them the devil...
edit: you know what, im going to make a thread for this.

"M$" is either an admiration or insult depends on the reader, but you can't avoid the truth that Microsoft has plenty of $$$$
This is just the beginning.

You have to be young if you think this is what he's truly talking about. Microsoft has spent their entire existence stepping on the little guy and trying to monopolize the entire personal computer market for themselves. This is where the M$ originates from, simply because Microsoft has always been pro-**** the consumer.
Also -- Most of the studios that Sony buys are small time studios that gain an infinite amount of development tools (money, staff, support) by being acquired by Sony. Sony rarely dictates how first-party titles are created which is more than evident by the scale of difference between most titles.

Hmm...so the consensus is...to use MS instead of M$ and to report M$?

I see no crime in using M$ or $ony.
It don't mean nothing to me. I think kids love it. Hell they love things they don't understand.
Well keep rolling youngster.....one day you will be there, so you can understand.

explain to me how buying a company and basically disemboweling it for the simple reason that they may be a threat to your company's profits somewhere down the line is good business? I mean that can't be the reason MS was sued and the reason that Bill Gates stepped down as CEO now can it?

I'm not really 'offended' by it one way or another, but it would be great to see some proper terminology used once in a while. Instead of using the cheap shot at Microsoft by using the dollar sign instead of 'S', why not type 'MS' or even take a few extra seconds to type out Microsoft?
It doesn't hurtto type in proper English, you know?

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

That's funny... Because I DO have a hatred for MS and their tactics in the game industry. I've used M$ a few times, most of the time my pejorative of choice is Microshaft if I'm gonna say anything, but I usually just say MS, and I can demonstrate my hate and WHY I hate them in other words.
NOTE: From here on I'm no longer speaking to Xoar.
$ony would really not be as accurate because, point of fact, Sony doesn't buy off exclusives to the level that MS does, nor are they capable of it. When MS throws around the money hats, it's something that Sony has no means to compete with. Of course, if M$ is only used on the PS sections and $ony (haha) only on the 360 and Wii sections, it shouldn't matter at all... Just keep everyone in their respective sections, right? And if you're truly, um, neutral, then understand people have opinions, that their opinions can get hot, and STFU about how you're better than them for not having one.
