Sony Files With FCC For PSP-3000 >
2008/08/14 9:01:36: By DM![]()
Rumor mill for now, even though it is pretty much a given. Sony has officially listed the PSP-3000 with the FCC. This means that they plan to bring out the new hardware here in the USA, at some point. We guess it will be the big holiday item from Sony, along with the ps3. Let us know if the link goes belly up, we have everything saved. (Thanks, hammaheed!)
good to know there is a new psp on the way.*Update: Not much info on the changes to this model. The word is there are not many external changes, it seems its more of a cost reduction move. Again. (Thanks, tetris2)

FCC Docs Reveal Sony's PSP-3001 Upgrade
Sony's preparing a new PSP, according to Federal Communications Commission docs. The new specs show not much new under the sun, apparently more of a fine-tuning than a redesign.
The docs, unearthed by consumer tech blog Gizmodo, show few visible changes to the basic design. This "new" model PSP, called the PSP-3001, is likely aimed at reducing manufacturing expenses and increasing security against software pirates.
During his E3 roundtable, Sony Computer Entertainment of America president and CEO Jack Tretton said the company was working on "remedies moving forward... to close the loopholes" for PSP software piracy, which the company pegs for the handheld's fairly low global software sales.
He also admitted that Sony was considering increased storage space for the PSP, to better facilitate digital delivery. "I think you're seeing a migration as the cost of memory comes down and we see it slimmer and lighter," he said.

I hope it's not enough to warrant buying this new one, unless they can retail it for cheaper, much cheaper. I really don't want to go buy a new one. =(
New features would make me mad. The first re-do was very justified because the first PSP was a literal pain in the ***.

I hope its not that much different then the silm, I just bought mine Saturday. So tired of getting burnt on this stuff.
Like when I bought the first iPhone for $600 and then they drooped it to $400, and now to $200, in the first year.PS3 Favorite Game | MSG4

I just picked up a slim. I think I will stick with this one since the only reason I have a PSP is because of homebrew. If the PSP 3000 is going to cause trouble for hackers then I would prefer the older model. It would be interesting to see when this will come out and how it might piss off some people who just got a slim.

The only reason for me to buy another psp is if it has features that would make my gaming easier (second analog, built-in memory storage, improved buttons and analog stick, etc...)

Anyway I knew a PSP-3000 would come out since the release of the PSP-2000. There were references about it in the slims firmware

Here are my predictions about it, all the way back from march. Maybe I should change my username to Surfer-Boy

Look at the FCC filings under test 1, section 2.1... it clearly states that it's for a production prototype not meant for mass production, so I don't think we'll be seeing this for awhile.

Guys, all these things you want, won't be in any current generation of PSPs. You have to wait for the official second PSP and not the PSP slim to see any design changes. Sony is just purely trimming away fat and cost to reduce the cost and weight so it is easier to handle.

This is a terrible idea if you think they could just add this to another iteration of the PSP. PSP-2, definitely.. But it would divide the PSP market, and no games will be made to take advantage of it because there are already around 30-40 mil. out there. It's not gonna happen. Wait 2-3 years, most likely 3, for the PSP-2.
