http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article....&in_page_id=34A teenager obsessed with Grand Theft Auto attacked four women in an imitation of the violent computer game, a court heard.
Ryan Chinnery, 19, from Kent, attacked the women after becoming obsessed with the video nasty. A court heard yesterday how the teen prowled streets in his car targeting females he thought were prostitutes.
In the video game a character drives around on "missions" — including approaching prostitutes who can be beaten up.
Prosecutor Eleanor Laws quoted in The Sun said Chinnery's love of Grand Theft Auto "may go some way to explaining his attitude towards women".
But Madistone Crown Court was told none of Chinnery's victims were in fact prostitutes.
A copy of Grand Theft Auto was found at his home by police.
The assaults, all at night, took place close to Ashford, Kent, over a two-month period last June when Chinnery was still 17.
Chinnery admitted two sex attacks. Two similar offences were left on file.
According to The Sun, he attacked his first victim under a railway bridge, pulling down her trousers and touching her breasts. He dragged his second victim along a path but they fell down an embankment into a river before anything happened.
Chinnery grabbed his third victim by her arms as she walked home from work. He had to let her go as a passer-by approached.
In his fourth attack attack he made a women remove her clothing before sexually assaulting her, and performing a sex act on himself.

What an idiot its these kind of people who make the whole video game industry look bad. Why would someone even do that? It's so dumb I'm a teenager myself (16 yrs old) and doing something like this never even crosses my mind. Now this is gonna turn into some whole big issue "Do Violent Video Games Cause Violence" such a dumbass.

How.. horrible. But you still can't blame the video games. It's the inherent problem inside the individual. Anything could have set him off. There are millions of us gamers that know our games are a fantasy/escape. That guy needs serious help.
Spike: Well, what can I tell you, baby? I've always been bad.

Well hopefully if he gets sentenced and serves any time, he becomes someone's ***** and gets it up the *** every night, then he can pretend he is one of those transvestite hooker's in the game...

Haha I can imagine this being in a film...A copy of Grand Theft Auto was found at his home by police.
Ramirez: "Sarge! I think I found something!"
Sargeant: "What is it Ramirez?"
Ramirez: "It looks like some sort of Apparatus used to decapitate helpless baby rabbits!"
Sargeant: "No Ramirez, it's something worse than that..."
Ramirez: "Wh...What is it Sarge!?"
Sargeant: "It's....It's...a video game..."
Ramirez: "Jeepers!"
Sargeant: "This guy is going DOWN!"

I've been playing GTA since the first one and in no way shape or form has it ever crossed through my mind to go out in the streets and do such nonsense. people are so stupid.

The man obviously has a mental problem if he can't tell the difference between virtual reality and real-life. I've played Grand Theft Auto plenty of times, and not once have I been tempted to go out and rape a woman or steal a car. What's even more disturbing is the fact that he looks upon every woman as prostitute, which isn't going to get him very far in life. I'm just annoyed that, yet again, the media are blaming a videogame because a crime has been commited. Yeah, the kid had been playing Grand Theft Auto but do they not realise that there are a number of influences which could be to blame, say television or films? Take 'Saw' or 'Hostel' for example, two films which could easily have influenced him to commit such a horrible crime, but do the media take any notice of them? Do they blame them? No, they blame Grand Theft Auto because it's an interactive experience which actually allows the player to do what they want, rather than just watching it happen on screen but, personally, I think that's just a load of bullcrap. I think something should be done to help the public (read: the media and the authorities) remember that videogames aren't the only entertainment to contain scenes of sexual violence, not to mention excessive swearing and thuggish behaviour.
Infact, I was planning on writing a letter to The Sun a while back about how gamers are often judged because of the games they play, and that not all gamers are the same as one another. I was going to write to a number of papers, actually, but I never got around to doing it. Maybe now I can do it, and bring light to the fact that gamers are always misjudged because of one's behaviour. Just because one gamer commits a crime does not mean that every other gamer will follow suit and do the same. I have no plans to go out and rape a woman just because I've played Grand Theft Auto, and I'm sure nobody else here will either. Just like how I assume that any one who has played Gran Turismo or Burnout will not attempt to hit the streets and try to perform drifts, or how any one who has played Metal Gear Solid 4 will not stalk a random person and then inject them with nanomachine compressors, regardless of how funny that would be to actually happen. Videogames have no more of an influence on people than television or films do and we, as proud gamers, have to prove this to people. How we do that is unknown at this time because the public refuse to listen to us, but I think a well-written letter to the correct people should be more than enough to show that at least some of us are mature enough not to be confused by what is real and what isn't.

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

wow...another person trying to take the blame off of themselves and try to focus the attention on the video game...how many of you think that gta was actually the "reason" that he committed this crime?

LOL what a simple understanding of GTA

The only admited relation to GTA and his actions was that a copy of the game was found in his home. So what does someone who thinks it's okay to rape and beat women have to do with him owning GTA4? Nothing. Christ. Just admit that the guy is a creep and needs either help or jail time, not blame a video game.

This guy was a nutjob long before he ever played a videogame. GTAIV has nothing to do with sexual predation. If anything, GTA probably was a stop-gap keeping him from doing these acts.. at least for a while.

In defence
I know this boy you call "sicko" among other things, I know of things said 1st hand from court etc... and not once has he himself blamed GTA for what he has allegedly done, it's all the media and the police claiming that this was the cause. Knowing him, he hardly played GTA, especially not as often as the newspapers claim... you should all know by now that the media exaggerate an awful lot of things and this being one of them... he hasn't committed any offences before, that picture you can see of him was when he was 15 years old (most teenagers that age dress to look hard) was the only picture the media could find of him... so they used the worst to make him look bad.
I am disgusted about how the media have gone about this as much as some of you... you cannot blame a game for something like this, especially as I have said before that he didn't play it as often as the newspaper suggests. He doesn't even own the GTA that the newspaper has provided screenshots of... I even own a GTA game at my home... We do believe that the influence of the actions he has admitted to was the cause of 1st time drug taking as the incidents were totally out of character... as a female I would not normally be sticking up for someone who I believed hurt other women deliberately and so I ask you all not to take the media as 1st hand information... the amount of lies they tell just because they want more readers etc...
I did think twice about writing this reply but I have read too much about GTA being blamed for this and the amount of lies and it's frustrating! He was a nice bloke and a shy bloke, he has in my opinion been pressurised by the police (because they said they would give him a lesser sentence) which is always the great ploy to get someone to say something just because it sounds better, to then admit to a second offence... I believe that the 1st offence has also been very much exaggerated and again I ask you all not to believe all that the media writes about. He has committed an offence and has I believe served the majority of his sentence for that... the rest are just ridiculous.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this and I hope you will agree with me that the media are the cause of so many rumours and lies that you cannot always believe what they say anymore. This has also made me think twice about the safety around my county that the police give up looking for others and just concentrate to push the blame onto 1 person because of 1 stupid mistake.
