Double standard or 360 flaming in the PS3 section

I had promised myself no more posting on PS3 Forums, but I had to point out one last thing before I retire. I have noticed in the last 2-3 months that flaming of the 360 has pretty much moved from the former 360 section/now the multi-platform section, to the PS3 section.

I thought the powers that be wanted to stop flame wars around here. I guess they really just wanted to eliminate it against the PS3 and propogate it against the 360.

If xbox's HOME - is it a rip off to the ps3 home isn't ment to start a flame war, nothing around here is. yet it remained open for 2 days and 129 posts!

Compare that to this thread, Xbox 360 tops PS3 in Japan for sixth straight week which lasted 15 minutes and only 6 posts.

And this is just one example!

Now, can anyone give a rational explanation, other than "this is the PS3 Forums after all" or "don't like it, leave", robot speak, why this type of stuff is allowed to go on?

This is the ultimate proof that the powers that be will do anything to shut up the 360 owners and are willing to let any anti-MS post go on for a while while everyone gets their diggs in. Compare that to any negative, but factually true, news about the PS3 is instantly silenced.

Don't believe me, simply read the threads I have linked above and decide for yourself.

I was told that the latter thread would have been Ok if the cited source was different. Really? Give me a fricken break. News is news, regardless of the source. Just because it came from Xbox360 Fanboy and not NeoGAF, means nothing. It's the SAME story and quoted the SAME way.

@Rareware: Well the community here has a larger majority of PS3 lovin' people so negative news/sales thread is more likely devolve quicker and faster into a flamefest.

While the 360 lovin' crowd is in short supply around here, and so there's a lower probabilty of flame wars ensuin'.

So it's all about damage control.

That's all it boils down to.

If you are so upset by the way things are run over here, you should go find yourself a 360 dedicated forum.
But are you really surprised by the fact that a PS3 dedicated forum has more PS3 fans compared to your beloved 360's?

But on the flip side, there aren't any other XBOX360 dedicated sites as good as PS3Forums.com in my opinion. TeamXbox are full of fanboys, and I'm saying this as an Xbox guy.

....still I think it's better to just accept things that are pretty obvious (the fact that the site's name is PS3 forums means it will attract more PS3 users is pretty obvious right?) instead of constantly complaining about it.

While there is some semblance of balance here, there is no balance on TXB.

TXB has taken great strides in recent months, but they're still really, really one-sided. It used to be A LOT worse, but I think they're getting better.

Seems to me that rareware just wants a peeing contest. I don't get why everyone cares so much about what console is selling the most and where it's selling at. Are any of you getting paid by MS, Sony, or nintendo? I thought not. Then why for the love of *** is it SOOOO damn important to you?

I have no answer for this. Only thing that comes to mind is the "Mine is better than yours" logic that some people have. I suggest that some of these sales driven members*we all know who they are* get a life and spend some time doing something else than the "mines bigger than yours" posting. Though this will never happen i just thought I'd share my opinion.

As a PS3 owner, I came here to learn more about the PS3 and discuss it. As a 360 owner, I found a 360 section here so I get both needs in one place. I believe they should be treated equally, and with maturity.

then there are others who genuinely like looking at the sales data. i post the Japan MC charts and US NPD charts each time they come out because i actually like the analysis and the trend-finding, and i feel like it can give you some insight as to where the market is going. For me, this censorship, because that IS what this is, really annoys me, especially considering how one sided it is. honestly, i dont mind at all posting my threads in the PS3 section, they get more notice that way, but to be told that that's the only section I'm allowed to post inherently multiplatform data in, really rubs me the wrong way.

When Sony's quarterly reports came out there were a LOT of people asking what MS had for the same time period, or were just assuming (incorrectly) they did just as badly. The thing was, MS quarterly report had already been posted the week previous in the 360 section, but had been promptly closed due to the new censorship rule here. there was absolutely no flaming or trolling in the thread after the first 16 posts (except for some VGC bashing, and lets face it, they deserve every bit they get) yet it was still closed. People were wanting to know what happened with MS, yet we werent allowed to post it here.

Right now, in the wii section there is a thread open for Nintendo's Quarterly results, and it has been for the last 3+ days. its not that mods havent looked in the section. Hell reflex, one of the biggest proponents of closing sales threads, made a thread in the wii section just yesterday and didnt bother closing the sales thread in there.

Its not just that this site is trying to grow their ps3 bias, its that they are actively trying to piss on people who like the 360, and ONLY those who like the 360. if it was truly just about "this is PS3Forums, go find your own if you dont like it" there would be equal enmity for all non sony systems, but there isnt, its specifically aimed at the 360, and its tolerated, and propagated by the staff.

and by the way, its really pathetic that people have to resort to "this is PS3F, go somewhere else if you dont like it." thats a wonderful way to encourage positive posting and present a welcoming atmosphere for a site you are trying to grow. go figure that someone said it in the first 10 posts in this thread.

One thing that you seem to forget is that this is primarily a PS3 fan site, so we have implanted more strict rules when it comes to PS3 vs 360 sales numbers in the 360 section, you and quite a few others seem to be purely 360 fans, and if my 360 was my main platform of choice i would have spent my time on a 360 fan site and not a PS3 fan site.

You probably don't like my reply, and that is fine, the 360 section was meant as a place for us that also have a 360 to discuss that console also, it was not meant to be a place where anti Sony/PS3 fans gather around hailing the 360's greatness.

That is one of the reasons i stopped visiting the 360 more and more lately, because i felt it had become it's own community that is at war with what this site/forum was actually intended for, the Playstation 3 console.

Thanks for reporting that sales thread instead of just letting it sit so the mods could handle it.

EDIT: Don't worry, I removed it. I would have 2-3 days ago had I even known it was there.

Understandable. I just think that the sales threads really have no purpose and I had a thread stating why I thought this but it was, surprise, closed. I'm sure their are a select few that do just like to see the numbers of what everything is doing but let's all be realistic the majority are trying to war over it. Not saying you Webshark because I've seen some unbiased and informative things from you in recent memory.

have you even seen how many stealth trolls there are on the forums guys who joined up in 2005 and didnt post at all until recentlty and then its usually like this game sucks or my ps3 sucks or im selling my ps3 or my ps3 broke.

and you think the mods favour the ps3 i think some mods favour the xbox 360 imo the mods are more lenient to 360 flamers then to ps3 flamers you cant even say the 360 sucks with out an infraction.

.. The question sort of has always been:

"Should this be Everyconsole.com" or "PS3forums.com".

I mean, we should be "Fair" and "Balanced" but this is a Playstation site primarily. I do what the policy dictates I do, and really it's up to Seb and co.

Fenwick however, is correct. We do address problems on a situation by situation basis... It isn't like we have some master scheme or bias...or something.
