Thank you....I needed to hear that... for a second I thought I had took some crazy pills or something....all the 360 fanboys are worshiping on the forums there now. I just don't see why...it looks like an expansion pack...the score it received just seems...unreal. I give up on Gametrailers, they will never change.

lol that's what I was thinking... and also.. WHERE IS THE RESISTANCE 2 REVIEW?! It's arriving tomorrow, versus Gears on the 7th. I will be purchasing both, but still... the favoritism never dies there...am I the only one that has noticed it since early 2007?

You didn't watch the cutscenes explaining how the BB Corps became who they are, or why they were where they were did you? It helps if you see MGS 1, 2 and 3 also. I can understand how you can say MGS4 was bad if you didn't have any MGS background information or didn't pay that much attention to what was actually going on though.

I think Gears of War story is really good. It's just the background design of Gears 1 single player was terrible just like resistance 1 background and some of the enemies were just annoying like crylls in dark, ugly female berserker who can't be killed except by boring hammer of dawn.

What I mean is, it got somewhat hard to follow, with weird names, awkward dialogue and characters, and things that just don't plain make much logical sense.

Its often the case with Japanese movies etc when moved into English. Something is somewhat lost in translation.

Not to mention the also typical Japanese eroticism thrown in for good measure.

thats what i did, i went to gametrailers and watched like 7 videos or something, catching me up on the whole franchise before starting mgs4, wanted to be as informed as possible, without playing the other games

gametrailers has lost all credibilty in terms of reviews in my book there is no possible way that a Geow 2, being only the 2nd game in the series and having a simplistic (story) predecessor, could be any where close to the amount of depth that had been built up for mgs4. The epicness of mgs4 is the culmination of a saga; the story in that game is so significant and epic because the characters have grown over the course of the series.

I had played all of the metal gears before mgs4 so i can't really say how it would look to someone who hasn't but if you played mgs4 even though you had never played any other mgs games and didn't get the full signifcance of the story then i implore you to play the rest of the series because it is by far the most epic saga in video games, period.

To say that a game which has only been built up over two games (one being particularly shallow and short) has a better story line than something that has been built up over 4 games that all have extremely complex and intricate characters and story arcs(more if you count the nes games that tell Big Boss' story) and about 10 years of development is assanine. I understand that there is beauty in simplicity but that only goes so far.

On a side note, i want to make perfectly clear that i am in no way saying geow 2's story line is bad or even just good im just saying that there's no possible way to compare it to MGS4 or any MGS for that matter

I'm sorry but you could stare at Eva's breasts in MGS3 as well. Also, what was perverted about Naomi asking Snake to take his shirt off? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it to run tests on him? I don't think there were any sexual intentions there. As far as Naomi and Otacon making love, what was "perverted" about two people who are romantically involved having sex with each other? As far as the B&B corps and the rest of the things you mentioned, they were fanservice: something not uncommon in adult Japanese anime and certainly not out of place in this very Japanese game.

While I won't say Gears 2 has a better story (I haven't played it) I just have to get this off my chest: WHY THE **** DOES EVERYONE THINK MGS4 HAD A GOOD STORY?

It was so horrendously stupid that I wanted to scream at people who thought there was some greater meaning to it all. The story is no different than some cheesy paperback suspense novel you'd pick off a rack, but the production values convince you otherwise - sort of like the crappy Kingdom Hearts storyline being touted as good (love the game, hate the plot).

That said, a "good story," does not necessarily mean a story which tries to be deep and meaningful through gratuitous and complex stupidity (like MGS4 - yes, this is my opinion). The means by which the road from beginning to end is traveled and the presentation of the moments along the way are all part of what makes a story good. Look at Uncharted. Its story is one we've seen countless times before, but through Naughty Dog's excellent capture of character and style, the story is one of this generation's most memorable.

Again, I have not played Gears 2, so I won't say anything of its plot, but having beated MGS4, I have to say this: the story arcs were cheaply wrapped-up, the dialogue was God-awful, the "meaningul speeches," were garrulous and the cutscenes were drawn out to reveal Metal Gear's techincal prowess and nothing more.

Now, don't get me wrong - I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear franchise. However, I find it annoying to see so many people claim MGS4's story as gaming's all-time best when it had such a mind numbingly stupid plot.
