SourceSeb Downey has confirmed that Killzone 2 natively supports 1080i. Here is the quote:
"I got a message from one of our code gurus today about me talking about the 720p stuff I was spewing incorrectly and told me that we now support 1080i natively too. Glad they got that in too. Now rejoice!
Seb Downie - QA Manager - Guerrilla Games"
I always thought this game is too good looking to be 720p, great news

Isn't 1080i actually less then 720P? If so, this isn't impressive. I admit i may be wrong.

Surely 1080i is much better than 720p. I think 1080i has more resolution, (hence the larger number), but the 'i' means that the way your TV refreshes the screen is different.
Can someone fill the gaps I left, cheers!

Cool.
I have a 1080p LCD TV. Would it look better on my TV in 720p or 1080i? I know my TV upscales everything to 1080p. I can't wait to see the magnificent graphics and everything else this game will have.
Edit -
http://www.newtechnologytv.com/index.php?itemid=1101920 x 1080i at 30 fps (frames per second) and 1280 x 720p refreshed at 60 fps (frames per second). In other words, the 1080i has more raw pixels for greater clarity, but the second number, 720p means the screen is refreshed twice as fast. So basically, the question comes down do you want finer granularity on your display, or a quicker redraw of the action happening on the screen? As it turns out, there is rather widespread agreement among the experts. Most of them contend that 720p is preferred for the display of sporting events, and that the 1080i mode is better for watching everything else.
Maybe, it's just a matter of preference?

people could interpret it as only half the resolution, but really it is the same as 1080p, the only thing is with 1080i i think only 1 half of the screen is rendered at a time or something like that??

im sure 720p and 1080i arent much different I means the image loads twice once verticle then once horiztonal then interlaces *combines to make image, whille 720p both verticle and horiztonal lines are done at same time giving slightly sharper image i think, but more detail in 1080i, but then im not complete sure, i hope im not complete wrong >.>

1080i isn't really better then 720p. I = Interlace found in all old televisions. It just means the resolution is higher but the clarity isn't. P = Progressive witch is a all digital. The resolution is lower but the quality of the picture is better depending on the set you have and of course 1080p is the highest fidelity you can go.
In reality, the difference is very minimal between 1080i and 720p. 720p is my personal preference.

ok i have a theater room with a panasonic PTAE900U projector([ame="http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-PT-AE900U-Home-Theater-Projector/dp/B000BMFYGW"]Amazon.com: Panasonic PT-AE900U Home Theater Projector: Electronics[/ame]) with a screen size of 108 inches diagonal. I have changed my resolution between 720p and 1080i, 1080i looks 10x better than anything in 720p. i think it has something to do with the size of the screen. but 1080i is the way 2 go unless you have 1080p which is something i would like to upgrade 2 soon

This is really interesting because most modern TVs will be able to convert 1080i to 1080p although the effective framerate will be lower.
The PS3 probably doesn't have enough memory to store the 1080p data for a game with this much going on so it is a good compromise.

Never use N4G as a source for news, they though David Jaffes post on neogaf was true and posted it as news. That thing about that guys mother who had upset Jaffe.

That is a good call. It might not matter as much in terms of wartime setting. It might make a bigger difference if it was a racing game. Then again I would imagine alot less happening in the background of a racing game.
I think you are right about the memory. Becuase from what I have seen so far KZ2 is going to be HUGE.
