There was one of these on another forum I go to, and surprisingly a lot of great advice came out of it, because so many people had already gone through what others were going through and such.
So this is the place for questions on relationships, sex, mixed signals, and everything in between.
So I had a question for you older members.
I'm 18, and I've been dating this 22 year old. Been on a few dates, already had sex, but I've never been to her place yet.
Turns out she's a mommy. To a 3 year old boy. I just find out and this is way beyond anything I've dealt with. She's not going to introduce me to him or anything because we don't know each other well enough, but I think I'm just gonna bail. I don't want no baby mama drama. Should I keep seeing her or cut the ties?

Well if you plan on marrying someone you might as well get someone your own age and you will have a fresh marriage, not someone who's already been in a marriage and has a baby, and little do you know about her, her husband can even be overseas working and she could be cheating?

This should just be called the "Ask Dave for Relationship Advice" thread.

lol In an attempt to actually give advice as opposed to sauntering off.. (funny guys ^^)
This is all just my opinion of course and you did ask for advice
Put yourself in a mental image with the girl and a 3 year old son
.
If you think you can handle that, and you think she's worth it, stay and get to know her some more. You can always bail out later though doing so will hurt her and you more seeing as then you'll have had more opportunity to get attached to each other.
I know you've said that you've gone on a few dates, have done the deed and all but from what I understand you still don't think you know each other well. By the sound of things you barely found out about her son and that should've been one of the first things she should've told you about when you first started dating. A kid is big. Personally every girl I've ever met who has a kid, I've found out the fact in just a few hours. You should've got some warning or hint at least before anything happened.
I'm 20 and I'm turning 21 this year and even I am daunted by the idea of having to deal with a child. Heck just watching my sister and her husband (mid-20s the both of them) deal with a kid looks exhausting. Now you're 18 and though thats coming into adulthood, you've still got a lot to learn and experience. So do I of course lol But I doubt this woman is really gonna end up just wanting a short term thing with you. If she does, already having a kid and all, then I'm not sure that's the type of girl I would personally want to be with >.>
As much as it sounds bad, in this guy's oppinion, time to slowly cut the relationship. Hey you've had a try, and who knows, maybe if she told you earlier you would've either known to avoid the incoming drama, or warmed up to the idea and have had the time to prepare for it but as it is, she didn't.
The fact that you already stated wanting to bail and avoid the drama shows that you don't want that kind of responsibility and complication. That should've already made up your mind for you. Nothing good would've come from forcing yourself into a situation you don't think you're ready for or you don't want to begin with.
And I guess that's all I have to say about that
Oh and I broke up with a girl when I was 18 and we were probably closer than you and this girl (*shrugs*) and then she got pregnant with her new bf in just 4 or something months after we broke up. Me and my friends just sighed in relief when we did the math and were sure it wasn't mine so yeah.. lol At least in your situation you can bail. I was just lucky to dodge that bullet.

I'm back to seeing my girl again

I think I'm gonna have to accept that it is what it is and not to put too much pressure on it.
We'll see how it goes...

Gratz dude. Hope all goes well for you.

Yeah for me it's been very interesting lol. On Tuesday and Wednesday, I got an incredible amount of attention from my buddies at school because of me going out with this girl lol. It's just that I've never even tried to date a girl before and so now that we both changed our Facebook status' (and of course the girl telling her friends about us), it was suddenly the thing everyone was talking about lol. Kinda nice for a change.
But anyway she and I are walking everywhere together at school, lotsa hugs, and we're sitting together at lunch and stuff now. Plus on a side note, she went Prom dress shopping with her friend on Monday so I asked her if she'd go with me to the Prom (even though it's not until May) and she agreed. We'll probably talk about it later to go with a group so we can do the whole limo thing or something. Idk yet.
So all in all, I'm going to see if she wants to get together this weekend. Maybe watch some more The Lord of the Rings movies or maybe even go to the movie theater. I'll talk to her about it.

I would like to ask for advice but haven't been in the relationship yet.
Maybe there should be how to get into a relationship thread.

Well I'm 20 lol so you should have a wider choice of places to meet people. I was gonna say the interwebs if you were younger but if you did that now, all you'll encounter are 16 year olds and younger who are looking to chats for prince charming. On one hand thats convinient but at our age... just no lolz
You can meet people in clubs, bars.. the mall.. Oddly enough I've seen a pretty girl or two in front of the Wii, PS3 shelves at retailers so.. O.o School if you're still in there like I am..
But really.. People are social creatures at heart. Shouldnt be too hard if you just start small conversations with strangers
you never know what happens after a "hi" so that should be something..
..................
Why am I throwing advice around? lol
