Got a recommendation for Twilight fans.. Clicky this thread

Well, it's not exactly a vampire movie, but it is an amazingly well done tragic romance story!


Some of you may remember my thread way back recommending the Beside You in Time BR from Nine Inch Nails, in which case, I hope you have enjoyed that disc as much as I have. Now, I know not everyone is a sucker for a Romeo and Juliet story as I am, which is why I threw the Twilight ref in the thread title. That being said, Shinobi is probably the best $20 BR you will find.. It is such a gem of a movie! Fans of high movie art should leave their phasers set to camp, so now that you've been warned I'd like to move forward.

First of all, the picture is pretty much an 8-9/10 depending on the scene. The Japanese film makers got on board with the HD wave very well and the quality is evident throughout. Also, as many fans of Japanese film will be happy to know, the language and audio options do allow for subtitling with your language of choice for audio. I highly recommend sticking to the Japanese audio, as a purist. The english translation text was done with professional care and rarely if at all trails the audio track. Anyone who watches foreign films will know how big a deal this can be for "general viewers" to share these kinds of movies with.

I do not wish to review the story, to be frank. There were a number of touching moments that deserve their own time to tell. In fact, I'd almost rather leave you thinking that what you're about to see is simply a Feudal Japan Romeo and Juliet and then allow you to decide where the differences and similarities begin and end. The special effects are clean, but not overdone or particulary "high budget" but are appropriate for the story telling and plot movement, which was very reminiscent of Twilight imho. There is very little doubt in my mind that this movie will be able to hold the interest of good company.. Which really, to me, puts the fun into BluRay. You should be able to open up to new experiences in High Definition rather than simply pluck from what you already know or like on DVD. This movie is a shining example of $20 better spent than picking up the Breakfast Club for the umpteenth time (You had it on Betamax, you had it on VHS, you have it on DVD... For God's sake, get a new movie!)

I agree, it was a waste of money to see that movie. Let alone to make that movie.

I may give this Shinobi a try, I need a good samurai movie and romance lol.

I'll have to agree with the OP.. Of all the movies I blindly purchased, this is one of the best! Check it out, definitely worth it imho.
