I had to do it. For the vinyl lovers out there in PS3Forums!
I have over 300 records, about 50 of them are considered hard to find or rare, and about 20 are considered quite expensive/rare. I absolutely love them, I listen to them, not just collect them. I'm into Experimental Electronic, Ambient, Noise, Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash, Grind, Gore, Crust, Industrial, etc.
I'd like for anyone who has vinyl or likes it, or would like to try it out, to post here and discuss. Its my favorite way to enjoy music, from the awesome packaging, to the hands on style.
Anyway, post'em if you got'em. I'll start of modestly. I'm obviously not going to post my whole collection piece by piece, so over time I'll post my favorites, or the rarer ones. Here is a bunch of quick photos I took, not trying to do cool lighting, or set the camera perfectly, just quick snaps.
First of all the 300 dollar, SIGNED by Trent Reznor, version of GHOSTS. Its got 4 vinyl, an art booklet, a signed art book, 2 limited prints of 2 photos, 2 CDs, 1 Blu-ray of HD audio ghosts, and 1 DVD:
[reveal]
In its box it was mailed in from Nine Inch Nails:
Opening the mailed box, reveals two soft covered boxes with items inside of each:
Now this is what is inside the bigger soft covered box, the 4 pieces of vinyl, thick:
This is the other side of the 4 vinyl:
Each one of those 4 has a nice slip case inside:
Now this is the contents of the other box: (2 limited edition prints, a booklet of CDs, Blu-ray version of Ghosts and a DVD, a booklet of credits and photos and TRENT REZNOR signature... original!
You can see the signature here (there were only 2500 of these ever made!):
here you can see it opened more:

Here is some experimental electronic stuff, mostly Aphex Twin, or some stuff under his other names. I have tons of this stuff, most of it is quite rare, and/or expensive, this was a true pain to collect....
[reveal]
Analord, the BINDER version.... its a soft vinyl binder, an official Aphex Twin one that was released in extreme limited edition copies, it holds all the pieces of vinyl that make up this MASSIVE set. Each vinyl was about 25 dollars each, and the binder ALONE was 300 dollars!
Here is a quick look inside, all 12 vinyl are here.. this is just a quick peak:
And again, each one is labeled and everything... they come this way, the album is made up of 12 vinyl!
This was under a different name, UNIVERSAL INDICATOR: RED, hard to find.... not all UNIVERSAL INDICATOR albums were done by him though, only this one and half of another (green)
Here we go, this is The huge box set for the Aphex Twin album Drukqs, its a weird shaped long box with a picture fold out inside, a cardboard cut out of a circle and an Aphex Twin logo (not pictured).
Here is what it opens up with:
here is one of my favorite ones of his, quite rare as well, under his other name Caustic Window, this album is shaped weird, and is clear.. called "Joyrex J9"
Another Aphex Twin one, well.. half of it was his work... about... .this one is UNIVERSAL INDICATOR GREEN.... it comes in a bag, yes... I said a bag.... inside of a vinyl protector. There are 3 vinyl records, a 12", a 10" and a 7". All are marbled green vinyl:

That green one looks awesome.
Got my player ordered and my first vinyl on stand by. Can't wait to grab them and put it on for my first spin of vinyl.

Nice!
Its definitely fun. I gotta start doing my old routine more often. I'd take out about 3 records every few nights, I'd put one on.... grab the album and law down on the couch, look at it, read the notes, look at the lyrics and check it out for a while and listen, go change sides and listen some more.... it was really relaxing.

Found a US website that delivers world wide, have gone through all my favorite bands and back ordered all the picture discs they have and any other records that take my fancy.
Every time I think of listening to a record I always envision sitting out on the balcony at night with a stiff drink, on ice, in hand, eyes closed and an album playing softly in the background.
This is what I have ordered and will be my first foray into vinyl.

Hell yeah! I have a balcony with a small street below, a big tree that comes up close.. in the summer I love to sit there with a record playing... with a drink and a cigar or something. So nice!
You'll enjoy this stuff a lot. Its a lot of fun, it changes how you feel about music, at least it did for me.
There are all colors, I've seen all shapes and sizes too...... its pretty neat. That is only a very small part of the collection, hopefully people post more and then I'll post some more.

NICE. My view isn't that good, but its good enough! Haha.... very cool.
Well I like to keep fit as well, a cigar isn't something you inhale anyway.... so no lung cancer. Haha. Just nice flavor.
In either case, all you need to enjoy vinyl... is vinyl, and a comfy chair or couch.

Being home all day, I need something half decent to look at. The canals of The Gold Coast do well.
I thought you picked up mouth cancer from cigars?
All this talk of vinyls has me excited to pick up my player right now, but I can't
-
01-14-2009 #10REFLEXGuest

Well... you CAN get mouth or throat cancer from cigars, but if you don't smoke them often then I wouldn't ever really think about it. Just on special occasions. You can still keep really fit and smoke a cigar!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it all as much as I do. I know there are other vinyl lovers on the forum.

Yeah I'd hope for more posting, but the topic is brand new anyway.
I have lots more I can take pictures of, I haven't even started to take photos of them, that was just the start. I got lots of cool ones to show still.

I also have the Drukqs vinyl. Nice to see somebody on here with a good taste in music! Got to love Vordhosbn blasting through the speakers.
As an avid music fan I do have a hell of a lot of vinyls. Some of them include early 90's dance music such as Wildchild, The Prodigy as well as more recent artists like The National and White Rose Movement.
My favourite vinyl has to be the green promo vinyl for the Radiohead VS Green Effect remixes.

I'll try to post some pics later today.
Are the vinyls in the NIN boxset all 180 gram?"Our virtues and our failings are inseparable, like force and matter. When they separate, man is no more."

I am not a collector, but I do have a few. I have every TOOL album on vinyl, every A Perfect Circle, and a few original Pink Floyd (Dark Side Of The Moon, The Wall, Wish You Were Here). My uncle on the other hand grew up in the 60's and 70's and has probably over 500 original vinyl albums. He's a big time collector!

NOW PLAYING:
PS3 - Batman, BlazBlue
PSP - Soul Calibur

I think they are 180gram vinyl, if not, they are very close. But I'm sure they are.
Did they make the dirtchamber sessions on vinyl (the prodigy)?
I like old ambient too, like Bleep or Biosphere (same dude). I'll take some more pics tomorrow.

I'm into collecting vinyl (promos as well), but I'll probably play mine one of these days. At the moment my collection is quite small as I buy cd's more often, but I would like to get a lot more.
This is what I have so far:
Agalloch
Nile
Coheed & Cambria
Opeth
Slipknot
Sepultura
I would like to start getting a lot of ultra-rare vinyl, such as Porcupine Tree's Moonloop, but I can't right now.
-
01-23-2009 #24REFLEXGuest

Agalloch is one of my favorites, don't have their vinyl, I stopped truly collecting after I discovered them. I rarely buy vinyl right now, but I'm glad I have it, and eventually I will start buying it again.
