This may have been discussed before, but something struck me the other day while I was watching the Reggie interview at G4TechTV, and they asked him something like, "how will the Revolution controller look like?" Reggie replied with something like "Since we are having all this downloadable content, like our old NES, SNES, N64 games, and the Revolution can play the Gamecube games, try to think how we are going to make a controller that will be suitable for all those games"
And then I remembered that there was a speculation that the Nintendo will have some sort of holographic screen or something like that. And I was thinking, maybe the controller is a holograph, that changes the shape according to the game you play. It could be one possibility?
what are your takes on it?

No matter what image is displayed using a hologram, it would feel the same. Holographic images are not things you can touch. Your hand would go though it.

I really don't they would go that far to think about making a hologram control, the cost would be high and most people I think would not buy it at all.

They might use a gyration controller, which would be pretty sweet. A gyration controller is one where there is a sensor, and whereever you mover your controller, the cursor on screen moves that way too. For example, in a racing game, if you would turn your controller, not just the thumbstick, but the entire controller to the left, the car would turn left. This would be pretty "Revolutionary" even though I think another system has already used this. Also, there is a computer mouse that can do this. See the link for this below.

It's something I came up with due to a quote that Reggie Fiel Amie said, it was something like "Since will will have support for all NES, SNES, N64, GCN, and Revolution games, imagine what kind of controller we would need" So I was thinking, maybe Nintendo is working on a holographic shape shifting controller, that you can only touch when you have some special gloves on, etc. I know it's totally impossible to do in this day and age.

But, why does the Revolution have 4 controllers inputs for the GC then? I believe it is because the Revo controller don't support GC games, or it has to be some reason! They won't put those inputs there just in case anyone wanted to use a GC controller... And the controller it self? Holographic? Naaaaw... Might be, but.. Naaw... But I still believe it will be very nice. I have also red from an interview or something, but this is a rumour. That if you for example get close to fire in the game, the controller will become hot. (Not too hot I suppose). Other than that, and the wireless, and the gyroscopic thing, I haven't heard anything... :\
Lol, ps3land claim they know the Revolution specs... Well then, I would like them mailed to me please =) I wan't to see them too!

It'll be a transforming controller....twist it three times to the left, then fold it over and voila, a NES controller. Two twists to the left and a full revolution along the z-axis (I dunno what the means but....hey!) and it's an N64 controller. 7 twists to the right, three to the left, one more to the right, a shake, a rattle and a hum and it turns into Optimus Prime!

I agree I am guessing a touchsceen controller that can change depending on what gamesystem you are playing. Kind of like the all in one remote controls.
the remote

This would be kind of cool b/c you would be able to customize the controller to each game. Only draw back is NO BUTTONS!!! But atleast this would eliminate "button mashers" in fighting games. (We all have that one friend)

Nintendo and their gimmicks....It's only a controller, I don't want it to be a rubix cube! I don't think a gyration controller will be very good either. I don't think because you have to tilt it and lean all over the place in your seat will make it more fun, just fiddly and detract from the actaul gameplay. I'm sorry but Nintendo have lost the plot.

I coulda sworn it was about 80% confirmed that it was just going to be a touch screen. I mean think about it. Button layout would change to that of whatever system you are emulating. Makes sense to me even though i think its dumb (no sticks?! You need sticks!)

The touch screen is the DS, but since the DS is gonna be able to link with the rev, then touch screen is posssiable.
And, even if you were to use the current GC controler, you might be able to play all the clasics, its basically the same buttons, but with just more added on each gen of consoles..."A machine so sophisticated that it wont even work properly!"

LMAO a rubix controller, now that would be pretty neat.
No way they would have a hologram controller, for one, they would need some form of feedback, currently we cant make 'hard' holograms, physical holograms, for one it would require way more energy than the current holograms that we can make that are fully 3D.
You could have some sort of stereo camera however, but the way they would produce a 3D holographic controller, it would make the Revolution price sky rocket to the 10,000 price scales, hologram technology, especially 3D, is far off from being cheap..sadly
I like the idea of having a touchscreen interface, but as some have said, no buttons, how would you know you have pushed a button in, would they have some sort of electrical response or whatever.I have no signature.
No, really, i don't. You're just imagining this.

I happy that it is not some type of touch screen controller. it would be a pain for most of us. I don't think i could play a game like that.
