Today i bought SFIV, ive played it for a few hour, and i can honestly say i suck, very bad. I have 23 games played, only 3 wins. It is my first time playing a SF game in almost a decade, and i cant seem to win a game.
Anyone wanna offer me some advice?
Anyone else who finds that they simply cannot play to the standards of other's online, come here for some help.

Haha, I know what ya mean. I love SF so much but am beyond rusty atm. lol
I love fighters but I consider myself much more a casual player then a competitive one.PCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

When I got SFIIHD I sucked pretty good cause it was the first i've played since the 90's. But after practicing with my bro heaps I came good again.
Now I have SFIV and it seems very easy compared to SFII, easier to pull of moves, enemy AI doesn't seem as aggressive etc..
My advice would be to put some time into SFII and when you go back to SFIV it will seem like a cake walk.
When online you have to know what counters what, predict your opponent, and be good at pulling off your moves consistantly. SF can be a very technical game that requires lots of practice to get good at.
Also use your focus attacks and ex moves as much as possible, the focus is good for counter attacks and the ex moves the more powerful.
Character selection is important, try all the characters and practice with just one that you feel comfortable with, if you keep randomly picking characters for matches you will never be as good as you could be with one.

Online is a different ball game
People always use the easy route first, rarely do you find an epic battle so to speak.
I suggest you go into training and practice some combos, also play the computer a lot and get used to how the character works. If you see the computer do something cheap most likey a player will be doing the same thing. Learn how to counter it or avoid it
Fighting games are all about knowing your character and how to react when a situation arises
Never expect a match offline to resemble online play because everything is thrown out the window when you're online. It helps knowing your character and everything they can do cause you'll have to be like if I see this happen I need to do this this or that to counter it
I'm not a frame counter, but it helps to know them. I mostly fight based off instinct

This game is the most frustrating god damn thing I have ever had the displeasure of being subjected to. I have been trying for the past 45min to beat Balrog on medium.... medium! The problem I have is after trying different things I cannot for the life of me figure out wtf it is I'm doing wrong. Is there some sort of manual that didn't come with my game that somehow explains how to play the damn thing?

The street fighter rate of difficulty is much higher than in other fighting games. Maybe try a lower setting to start with then work your way up.
Medium setting on SF2HD was pretty difficult and it seems to be the same for SFIV. Funny though cause I bumped it up to max and I didn't notice that much difference.

SF4 is hard because its old school. Nothing going to save you from a telegraphed move or jump attack seen coming.
Go back to your roots, and play less flashy, and usually will pick up wins.
Also play with Focus attacks as that's the new aspect of this game, and more or less a useful tool to pick off newbies(probably got you a few times).
Also do some of the challenge player trials. They suck in terms of realistic combos(way too technical) for most people, but it shows you the basics of SF4, in terms of what goes into what.
Focus can be buffered into anything, Supers can cancel any regular move, and focus/cancel rules as they can cancel into easy ultras(if you need one handy). EX moves supersede normals.
Easy way to catch people off guard online, are those above. It becomes a defensive game, but what do you expect of SF4.
If you youtube the SF4 JP tournament final, you'll see it's a fireball spam fest showdown. Old school is alive and kicking in this game, no matter the fancy new system.

i can dominate in Marvel Vs Capcom 2 cause it more fast pace and i can link the combos with ease. Im real rusty when it comes to SF4.
At first i though the 10sec loading times between matches would make me hate this game. Little did i know, i found out it has an optional in game HDD install. Cause of that, this game flows pretty well now. gatta love in game installs.2009 Must Buy List

I haven't played a fighting game since SF2 and I completely suck at this game. I am really going to have to make an effort to train myself to become better. I really want to get better so when my mates come over, I don't get throttled at my own game in my own house.

I'm about 50% now. ( only played 11 matches though, won 6 ) In another online game I played, the caliber of player really depended on the time of day. Early evening was always a little easier than after midnight. The hardcore are always a little tougher.

Unfortunately for me most of the people I've been able to play online are from Japan and we know how fanatical they are about fighting games. I went 2 for 3 today so it wasn't too bad.
