Damn, SEBS RB7 is just too $#@!ing much. Was also shocked at how quick ALONSO's ferrai was too. I have bolded their names as there is no WAY MW and FM's cars are the same. Was shocked by Merc lack of pace.

Massa used a different set up to Alonso; high downforce set up, which didn't do him any good in the race as he was too slow on the straights. and Belgium is a very fast circuit
Mark is driving a car built for vettel. so in that respect, i guess you could kinda say he is driving a different car.

but on the Ferrari and Merc's, they both have balance issues when fuel is/isn't in the car.

the merc's especially have a horrid time balancing the car when they run with the extra 150KG of fuel. its probably a combination of poor design of the compartment, and running a less fuel efficient engine to those around them (meaning carrying more fuel which means more weight)

the kers is put under the driver in the merc, other teams have it somewhere in the middle, this also effects the balance you can achieve, ideally, they'd probably want it under the fuel tank....but that wont end well given the heat dissipation from the battery. but i digress.

what you end up with on the merc is a car that is very slow at the start of every race, and gets progressively quicker as the race goes on, with time gains higher then other teams, the problem with that however is that the upset balance destroys the tyres (ding ding ) so that negates any gain made by dropping the weight.

the root cause is probably their engine. McLaren run a VERY high rear wing everywhere they go, which gives an idea of how they counter the problem.
so what you get on the merc is poor grip at the rear, which means drivers must take a slower corner speed, which isn't the way to win the race.

you could see this at the start of the race last weekend, the red bulls carried SO much speed through eu rouge and raidillon that even the natural straight line speed of the merc couldn't counter. you would also notice that both mercs had a very shallow entry into eu rouge which compromised their entry to raidillon.
because the Red bull is a very balanced car irrespective of fuel load, they entered eu rouge faster then anybody, turned the car sufficiently and carried that speed though raidillon, which gave them a much higher top speed entering the straight while every other car had to accelerate to match them.

i could go on all day, but suffice to say, red bull can maintain corner speed better then any other car bar an empty Merc. The Ferrari's on the other hand, have a very un easy car when their is no fuel weighing the car down. and the mercs are just too slow.

with the teams being forced to carry identical fuel loads next year, i expect the Merc to magically fix their tyre deg problems over the winter

You know, I hear this a LOT, and all I can say is it seems to be a LOT of wishful thinking by people who really don't know what they are talking about.

Have you ever noticed that Infiniti emblem on the front of the Red Bull? In case you didn't know, Infiniti is owned by Nissan who is in a business partnership with Renault.

Now, when it comes to racing small displacement turbocharged engines, Nissan has been doing that since the late 1970s. They've got a V6 car called the Nissan GTR that they've built using a lot of the tech and experienced they've gained racing small displacement turbocharged engines.

Tell me, why do you think Mercedes, who does not have any significant experience racing small displacement turbocharged engines will make a better one that Nissan who has been doing it for about 40 years now?

And once you explained that, then try telling me who Merc have hired as a car designer who is better than Newey. After all, the Merc engine that is being used now is better than the Renault, but the RBR is a better chassis than the Merc, and that's why RBR has won 3 championships in a row and on their way to winning a 4th. RBR has NEVER had the best engine, they win by having the best car.

Yeah Newey is a genius. But with all the talent at Mercedes (Brawn/Lowe) you'd expect their 2014 car to be something special. Especially after seeing their new engine.

Next season is wide open for everyone.

don't say that! you'll dampen my enthusiasm for next year!

naturally, its hoped that he can race vettel one on one...long time to go though. who knows, webber might get one over on vettel before the seasons out!
that would probably be the best leaving present for him tbh; beating him at the final race. unlikely, but one can still hope.

If ricciardo does in deed have what it takes though, then Red Bull ultimately win, as they'll have secured yet another long term quick driver.

It was the only logical move. No point in having a feeder team if you don't take from them! Good luck Daniel, you'll need it to survive Dietrich's blatant Vettel favouritism.

"I'm not here to run around in tenth place, I want to get the best results for myself and the team. I would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to show what I can do. I know the team quite well already since being its reserve driver in 2010, which should make the transition easier.
already sounds like a good number 2. If they had signed Kimi or Fred i don't think it would've worked. Too many ego's

Still a fight for 2nd place int he constructors championship. Only 3 points between Mercedes and Ferrari.
Hamilton was on a charge the last few laps but out braked himself on the final lap scuppering chances of 8th place.

same as mclaren ruined it in the mid 80's, same as williams did in the early-mid 90's, same as ferrari did in the early 2000's.

F1 won't suffer for it, if you don't like it, don't watch it, it's as simple as that.

and furthermore, F1 has never been about equality. it's not a sport where you queue up and wait your turn.
Don't waste your words I don't need anything from you.
I don't care where you've been or what you plan to do.
I am the resurrection and I am the light.
I couldn't ever bring myself to hate you as I'd like.

Hamilton was lapping 1sec faster then most people at the end!
the guy was flying! granted, totally different strategy, but definitely made it a more entertaining watch as he hunted down as many points as possible

i remember playing F1 2003 on the PS2 and falling asleep racing round Monza on account of the long ass straights

however, it does look like RedBull have it again this year. at least the race for second is still lively!

I agree 33x. Don't get me wrong, Vettel is clearly an amazing driver with a ridiculous amount of talent (if it was all the car then why isn't Webbo doing just as good - though we all know he gets the left overs) but I do think a lot of it comes from that Newey car. Regardless, Vettel had a perfect weekend. He dominated the times in practice, qually and lead the race from start to finish. Just gets a bit boring never seeing him do many overtakes

If it wasn't for Kimi or Hammys overtaking this race would've been a snoozefest.

But for me, Nico Hulkenberg was the star of the show. He deserves a seat at Ferrari next year for sure. Assuming Kimi doesn't go back there or Massa keeps his seat. I don't want to see Paul in that seat, he doesn't deserve it.Ferrari should even give Kobiyashi the seat. I miss him in F1. He was always a entertaining driver to watch.
