I 100% agree but I really do feel that Mercedes power is the engine to have this year, both McLaren and Mercedes are looking very promising even in these early stages. even Williams. Ferrari I don't think are too far behind! It really is impossible to tell at this early stage though because they will all be running different programs!

    Final summary for the day:

Felipe Massa went fastest for Williams as the final day of Formula 1 pre-season testing at Jerez ended under red flags.

Kevin Magnussen, who topped the times on day three, ended his second day as a McLaren driver in the barriers at Turn 10.

Daniil Kvyat's Toro Rosso also stopped out on track at the same corner, possibly contributing to the accident.

It had otherwise been a successful day for McLaren and Magnussen, who - despite a spin at the final chicane - racked up 110 laps.

That tally was only bettered by Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who managed 115 in a trouble-free day for the F14 T.

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg had led the way in the morning with 91 laps, but in order to balance mileage handed over to Lewis Hamilton for the afternoon. The Briton turned in 41.

That was in stark contrast, once again, to reigning champion Red Bull, which managed just seven laps before calling an early close to a troubled four days.

The team finished at the foot of the overall timesheets, and with the least number of laps completed.

As it floundered, Mercedes hit the fore with the first full race simulation, conducted by Rosberg in the morning.

Hamilton, Alonso and Massa attempted long runs of their own during the afternoon, only to be cut short by a trio of red flags which produced a stunted end to the test.

The first was caused when Adrian Sutil lost the rear of his Sauber exiting the chicane and became beached in the gravel.

Magnussen's spin at the same corner, and then his off at Turn 10, brought about the other two stoppages.

The Dane still ended the final day fourth fastest, behind Massa, Alonso and the impressive Daniel Juncadella, who took over from Nico Hulkenberg at Force India.

The Spaniard, who races in the DTM, set overall bests on a number of occasions during the afternoon, and racked up 81 laps for the team.

Hamilton wound up fifth fastest overall, three seconds ahead of Marussia's Jules Bianchi.

A late run lifted the Frenchman into sixth for the day, and also put Marussia ahead of Red Bull in terms of laptime and lap count for the four days.

Sutil edged Rosberg for seventh, with Caterham's Kamui Kobayashi ninth fastest but more than 14 seconds off Massa's best.

He did at least manage 54 laps, significantly more than Kvyat or Daniel Ricciardo, who propped up the timesheets.

Feb can't end soon enough! I wanna see these cars racing

I wonder if the slower speeds will promote overtaking more?

That must have been a short interview:

Ted: So, can you explain how the new Renault V6 turbo works for our viewers using the Red Bull as an example?

    Renault: Erm, it's doesn't......

    I do apologize

Lotus will become the final team to run its 2014 Formula 1 car when the new E22 hits the track at Jerez in Spain on Friday.

The Enstone-based outfit skipped the first pre-season test at the Spanish venue last month while it spent more time completing its car.

But with that work now finished, the team is conducting a shakedown during a filming day.

Pastor Maldonado will drive, but will be limited to a maximum distance of 100km and will have to run on demonstration tyres.

The Venezuelan wrote on his Twitter feed: "Finally back to the track work, planing a filming day in Jerez today. Looking forward to drive the new E22."

Lotus's fortunes in the filming day are likely to attract greater interest than normal because of the troubled time that its engine supplier Renault has had recently.

With Red Bull having struggled to complete 21 laps at the Jerez test, if Lotus manages a decent amount of mileage it could point to progress having been made on the power unit front.

It is unclear if Lotus will reveal more images of the car today, but the team did release a teaser trailer on YouTube that pointed towards an announcement at 5pm CET on Friday

F1 is introducing new engines this season which, as well as seeing the return of turbos for the first time since 1988, also feature extensive use of 'hybrid' energy-storage technology.

This is at the heart of Renault's problems, with sources saying the company is at least two months behind schedule on its power-unit.

Winners and losers from F1 testing in Jerez

Renault were unable to run their turbo at even 50% boost in Jerez, and nor were they able to get the energy-storage system to run at anywhere near full capacity. They are also suffering severe vibrations in the drive-train, which show up in the car but not on the test bed.

Renault are trying some fixes for some of the problems at a 'filming day' with the Lotus team in Jerez on Friday - teams are allowed to run for no more than 100km on a test designated as for promotional work.

It is the first time the new Lotus has run, after the team failed to get the car ready in time for the Jerez test.

Red Bull also have to change the packaging of their car after running into severe overheating problems in Jerez almost as soon as it left the pits.

Red Bull motorsport chief Helmut Marko told Sport Bild magazine this week that chief technical officer Adrian Newey "has to redesign some elements in the rear of the car" but added that he expected the team to have solved that problem by the first Bahrain test.

    Sauce
If Adrian Newey is redesigning the car, Renault must have made a dog's biscuit out of the engine :/

More problems for Renault as the engine of the Toro Rosso packed up 70km into a promotional run. Apparently the run was littered with battery and software faults...

I can see this theme running into the Bahrain test.....
