Finally finished reading all the school books that I had to read and now can focus on continuing Dantes Inferno by Alighieri. I plan on reading all the three books but people say that the 3 books heavily diffrentiate between each other and the follow up books are more complicated and not so easy to comprehend.

I finished The Wise Man's Fear. I liked it more than the first book, but...

I'm now currently reading George Orwell's 1984. I'm about 10% in, and I'm not liking it very much. It feels violently dramatized, and his writing ranges from passable to downright shaky and confused. There's absolutely no subtlety, which is unfortunate as that would have played very well in these cir***stances.

I have this edition of the Divine Comedy, so far I've just read about 190 pages in to Inferno. It definitely isn't easy reading, IMO.

Some people talk about 1984 as if it's the best thing to ever be printed on paper. I didn't like the book at all when I read it. And...

Yeah its definitely not an easy book and I heard that the purgatory and heaven are even more complicated than inferno.

I remember not feeling very much about Winston in 1984. There was no emotional connection. I have read Brave New World and while I don't remember every detail I remember enjoying it more. The ending wasn't much of an improvement but at least John was able to go further in freeing himself than Winston. I haven't read Anthem, should I? Isn't that the book that heavily influenced Bioshock? If it's not that book I know it's something by Ayn Rand.

    Anyone read this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/080...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

It was recommended by xkcd, and has great reviews. I'm already planning on ordering it soon. I'm just curious for any personal opinions here for it.

Whoa, sorry. Super late here. No, I haven't.

In regards to 1984, I got about 1/3 into it and just stopped. This is the first (serious) book I've ever put down and stopped reading because it's just so painful and boring to read. Bleh.

I recently read The Last Wish and Blood of Elves (Witcher) by Andrzej Sapkowski. I found both of them to be quite entertaining.

Right now I've started reading Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton. Been thinking of reading something by him for a long time. I hope he's as good as people say.

I hadn't heard of that book before but I added it to my list.

I was wondering about 1984 and if you had finished it or not. I don't blame you so putting it down.

Focus. Control. Conviction. Resolve. A true ace lacks none of these attributes. Nothing can deter you from the task at hand except your own fears. This is your sky.

I was reading "This is gonna hurt" by Nikki Sixx but had to stop. His self loathing and hypocrisy in that book made me cringe more and more with each word.

I am currently reading 3 books simultaneously:

The Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela
    Social Animal by David Brooks
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carniege

All 3 are excellent and I have trouble putting them down, especially the Nelson Mandela book.

    Currently Playing: Pokemon X
