Just bought the first GoT book. Can't get into the HBO series so hoping I enjoy the books instead.

started reading Twisted by Lynda La Plante, its pretty good so far!

this is what the insert says:

wealthy, attractive and successful, the Fulfords, with their strikingly beautiful teenage daughter Amy, seem settled and content. But appearances mask a strained relationship almost at breaking point. Marcus's latest business venture has failed, draining Lena, the major breadwinner, dry. Putting Amy into weekly boarding school and striving to get her own career back on its feet, Lena remains alone in the luxurious family house as her marriage heads towards divorce and joint custody of their own child

When Amy arranges a sleepover with a school friend one weekend, neither parent is in contact with her. Saturday, Sunday, Monday morning pass before Lena - seething from her first, unexpected confrontational meeting with Marcus's divorce lawyer - phones Amy... Voicemail - she must be in lessons. Lena sends a text. She waits. No reply, no contact whatsoever. It is only when Amy is reported missing from school that Lena contacts the police. Her daughter has not been seen since Saturday afternoon.

As the police intensify their enquiries, their reassurance that Amy will be found safe become increasingly hollow. DI Reid, in charge of the case, fears the worst...

A family under constant police and press scrutiny, a father who seemingly lied about his alibi for the weekend, a mother whose perfect world is crumbling beneath her feet, a detective under pressure from his impatient superiors to deliver a result. Where is Amy? Is she alive or dead? Lies and betrayal mount as the hunt for a missing girl becomes a search for a body...

Heading out to buy A Clash of Kings. I didn't get into the GoT series but the book was amazing. I think once I read all the books I'll give the series a go again.

I don't read. At all. But being a big Bioshock fan, I bought the book based on the game.

I'm honest when I say I'm not easily picking a book up when reading. I bought this with the intention of getting more interested in reading books, but thusfar I haven't read much... I should read on though, I like it so far :P

Earlier today I ordered a 1st edition hardback of Altered States, and an older copy of The Time Machine from the '60s. Amazon is pretty cool, sometimes.

I picked up this book today called The Copper Promise and it's really good! It's all to do with adventurers exploring these secret caverns underneath this mysterious citadel that's filled with traps, magic, monsters, mages and gods.

Doctor Sleep is a novel by Stephen King. There is just something about Stephen King’s writing that is like the feeling I get after having been out there, working in the real world, after a hard day, fighting deadlines and traffic, often snow, lots of that, then finally coming home. I get all toasty, feet warm, comfortable, with his voice in my head.

I just finished Tina Fey's memoir, Bossypants, last week and now I'm switching back and forth between The F*ck-Up by Arthur Nersesian and Palo Alto by James Franco. I'm reading the latter because, obviously, I am a glutton for punishment.
For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary, full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen.

Just finished the first book in the Commonwealth Saga (Pandora's Star). It was my first book by Peter F. Hamilton, and I just loved it. It's a bit of a brick (1144 pages), but very, very good, especially if you are a sci-fi nerd like I am. Can't wait to read the second part (Judas Unchained).

Right now I'm reading Time of Contempt (The Witcher) by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Hey Libra, I read Peter F Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy whcih was pretty special. I'll admit i was damn confused by the end and didn't entirely get what happened but most of it was most excellent sci-fi. He has a real good idea about science and space technology etc. Totally absorbing. 3 books in that trilogy and all bricks too, took some hours to get through those but fantastic universe he created there.

I'm also reading some Witcher at the mo, bit of background before game releases. I'm reading 'The Last Wish', just a few chapters in but it's an enjoyable read.

Yeah, I will definitely read more books by Peter F. Hamilton after this. I really like his style of writing. I'm reading the second book (Judas Unchained) from the Commonwealth Saga now.

I've read three Witcher books so far and they are enjoyable. I just love the whole Witcher universe. I've played Witcher 1 & 2, and will of course play Witcher 3. And I will probably get the Witcher comic books too.

I just finished the eigth book in Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen, Toll the Hounds. It was a great read, probably tied with The Bonehunters as my second best books in the series (I think Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice are the best so far). Now I'm onto Dust of Dreams.

I'm also attempting to read through Dan Simmons Hyperion Cantos for the first time (currently reading the first book). I've read Hyperion maybe twice before but never gotten through to the second book, The Fall of Hyperion.

Currently playing? Skyrim (360). White Knight Chronicles (PS3). Majoras Mask (Wii). Final Fanasy VII (PS2). Just completed? Final Fantasy VI.

I really enjoyed the first two Hyperion books. Never could get into the Endymion books though.

That's because you haven't found the right book yet. When you do you'll know because you will not be able to put it down. Hard to suggest something really. Do you like prefer to read Fiction or something more real? I ask because for me fiction can be pretty dull sometimes but history books I find amazing. They are about REAL stuff that happened and REAL people etc. Also, everybody's 'really good book' is different to everybody else's hehe so that's a tricky one.

If you like fiction do you prefer fantasy or sci-fi? Or something more about the now? There are simply too many books out there for you to not like at least one of them Start with the kind of games you like playing then see if there's something within that kind of mould that takes your fancy.

I am looking forward to playing the Witcher 3 this year so I've been reading The Last Wish which is one of the Witcher books. Although it's a good book and I was enjoying it I haven't gone back for some weeks, just not feeling the hook.

Truthfully I haven't felt the hook for a book since reading The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail which is essentially the historical 'theory' behind the Da Vinci Code film. If that sort of thing interests you I'd highly recommend it. That book I really could NOT put down, totally fascinating history within, a lot about the Knights Templar for example, also some interesting European history that just is not taught in schools, not least when I went to school. The 'theory' part is rather tenuous but the history lesson within was absolutely fascinating.

Well, I'm not so sure about that.. You're probably right, but I have a book about Bioshock (story before it happened, how rapture came to be) and I LOVE that series. I really tried reading it but after a while I didn't bother to pick up the book anymore.. Don't know why..

Not sure what I like in books... If your likes in movies is a bit the same as reading books, then I don't mind either one, as long as it's really good
I mean.. I love LOTR, but I also love a really good drama movie based on a good story (e.g. Premonition).

I did read most of the harry potter books back in the days, besides the last one or something I think...
I also read some books during school because they made me to but that aside I never read books..
