    Is sky HD worth it?

Im thinking about upgrading to sky HD, I have a 37 inch 1080i-720p hd ready tv in my room. Its going to cost £79.00 for the HD box and for them to install it. I already have multi room in my room so its just going to cost an xtra £10.00 for the HD channels. Will I notice much differnce on my TV?

So is Sky HD worth it?

    SKY HD is worth it!

I don't think the installation is though since you can do it yourself in about 5 mins but for picture quality, it's worth it imo. Once you go HD you don't go back, watching a DVD or normal SD broadcasting is almost impossible now (unless Im at work )

    I say go for it.

I don't have Sky mainly because I don't watch much TV but I've watched Sky over at a friends house and the HD channels are much better than the SD. Plus you can get HD movies which limit the need to buy Blu-Rays. The quality isn't as good as on a Blu-Ray but is much better than SD.

Well Tv HD is 720 (think it is the same over there), but you will definately notice a difference.... Especially if you watch any sports. (I used to flip back and forth just in shock at how different they are... I couldnt watch sports in SD after seeing the difference

I had it for awhile with an HD PVR, but have since cancelled it all together.

$20 a month more for multiple connections isnt that bad (based on a simple estimate conversion) if you are already paying for your cable.

I recently called Sky to upgrade, it seems like its a long process, you have to register, then wait for them to confirm and activate the register, then they tell you to go on sky.com to "track" your order. Mine says I should be up and running in about 3 months, I'm not sure if it mayhave something to do with them trying to set me up at the same time I first got sky or what. In any case, I know it willbe worth it, I went to my uncles house who had it and the picture was stunning...

    yeah go for it!

Bare in mind though that the broadcasts are not 1080p or even 1080i.

They tend to be 720 because of compression issues, but you will still get a good picture.

my parents have it and Sky Sports HD and Discovery HD are flawless....you wont want to watch anything in SD anymore!

Sky+ boxes also go for >£30 on eBay so you can get a little bit of the cost back

was just about to say the same thing. Was at my dads last weekened and he recently upgraded from + to HD+ and he showed me DiscoveryHD and it was incredible. Plsu we watched a football match and the replays were sick, you could see like the breathe of the football players as they waited for a corner. Now imagine BaywatchHD and i'd pay £79 just for that! lol

lol at zoidy. I rang up yesterday to order it and he said theyd ring back when a box is available. Its going to cost me £49, free installation because Im taking out another multiroom. Never seen it in action, just hope its as good as everyone seems to say. Hope I dont have wait 3 months mind, but I suppose it would be in time for the footy season in august, i wont mind too much. What I want it mainly for is the world cup 2010. Imagine that all in HD. Cant wait.

I had Sky+ HD installed only a week back, it's great although the instillation charge is stupid. And the default setting for resolution is 1080i.

Although the HD channels are nice, especially for programs I used to watch in SD, I find the bigger HDD much nicer.

Although the BBC really needs to improve broadcasting to BBC HD, like having programs all day and showing the latest episodes of Waterloo Road in HD, but it all depends on if they were filmed in HD I guess.

The easiest thing to do is to go to a local Sky approved dealer and they can come out within the hour normally, especially if you are already with Sky, they got here, set it up, phoned Sky and within 5 minutes they were gone.

Definately worth it, plus I think Sky HD comes with a HDMI cable... which'll actually let you watch in 1080p - which is lovely!

Well the room im getting it for has a 42" 1080p, ive a blu ray of planet earth and it looks stunning on it. I know sky hd is 720p and not full hd, im just wondering is it that much better than sd. Wish I knew someone who had it, so I could decide.
