    Katamari creator thoughts on Wii

Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi has revealed that he's not too excited about the Nintendo Wii, on account of it having a funny controller.

In an interview with Gamasutra, Takahashi said: "I'm not really interested in [the Wii]. I don't think a controller should have that much influence on the enjoyment of games.

This is a free world (I wish) and everybody has the right to an opinion.
I consider the Wii controller a very innovative and a great piece of hardware, but I agree with him.

I'm not bashing Wii or anything, I think Wii is great for kids and for whoever likes it.
I usually play games on the sofa assuming rest positions. That would be impossible with the Wii.
I see myself playing Wii for half an hour or 1 hour, but then I get tired of it. Maybe I'm too old for it

First of all, this "news" is really old.

I usually play games on the sofa assuming rest positions. That would be impossible with the Wii.
You can do that with Wii too, it's not impossible.

The article has a date from 2 days ago but I remember reading about this last year. Yes you can play from your sofa or bed. You don't need to wave your arm like a wild man unless you want to. Wrist movement is all you need according to Miyamoto.

Sorry, I didn't know it was old news.

Anyway, I meant the Wii controller. I can speak for 2 experiences I had.

    1) Playing "Time Crisis" with a lightgun
It is really fun to play it for a while, but then my arms gets tired and I have to stop.

    2) PS2 "Eye Toy"
Exactly the same thing as above. After a while I have to rest.

I cannot see my self playing for example RE4 for long hours if I have to use the Wii controller.

1- You don't have to point at the screen like a light gun (unless you are playing a game that requires it like Duck Hunt). You can rest your arms on your lap just like you do with regular controllers.

2- You don't really have to jump around and wave your arms.

Yea, maybe. Maybe he knows martial arts which will help him playing with the Wii controller (jk).

It could help if there was some kind of base where you fix the controller and you play like in arcade machines. In this case I would rest my case.

EDIT: Please consider this just my opinion, I respect and understand yours. But like me, I believe there are many more thinking the same way.

    That is incorrect.
Depending on design, there can be a great range of motions required of players; from the range of subtle motions people tend to use comfortably on a sofa with a TV remote, to the kinds of seemingly exhaustive motions you often see in Wii demo reels. That is ENTIRELY up to developers. In some cases, developers may leave that up to the players with different modes of play or calibration options.

Dual Shake (PS3)also employs motion-sensory. If you are aware of this, why haven't you applied this misconception to it as you do Wii?
It is no more written in stone that ALL Wii games will or must rely on motional input than is so about PS3 games. According to its developer, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will not take significant advantage of motional input.

Are you sure you agree with him? Maybe you haven't thought it through enough.

Do you think you'd enjoy Katamari Damacy more with a keyboard?
This is being more generous than I have to be to get the point across, considering it gets "worse" the further back in history we go, but do you think Tekken 4 would be possible with the NES pad?
Is the Lightgun experience possibe with the Dual Shock 2?
Would Dance Dance Revolution be as enjoyable on a conventional controller than its Dance Pad?

When I first read his comment (awhile ago, actually), I had HOPED there was some kind of misunderstanding (even on my part) or perhaps a poor translation... because taken literally, it comes off as complete nonsense.

Actually; the Nintendo reps letting us try demo games at E3 were telling us that (at least on everything there) it would pick up the motions both subtly and broadly and it was a matter of personal preference.

Robert, the guy I was with for NintendoPlayers.com, found it easier to swing his arm widely when kicking the ball in Madden. I found it easier to jerk my wrist.

In Red Steel, you can twitch your wrist to swing the sword, or broadly swing it.

It was always the option of the player.

The difference with the Wii controller is that you can sit down and your arm on your lap; and the Wiimote is FAR lighter than a light gun.

Everyone that has used the Wii controller says it feels very natural and requires very little movement to use it. Don't worry. Playing the Wii won't feel like competing in the Olympics.

I think the Wii will be better for some types of games than others.

    UTV Ignition Entertainment

Fast-Tracks 3rd person adventure title 'Project Kane' from its London studio

London, UK Nov 18th 2010: UTV Ignition Entertainment today announce the conclusion of its studio review for the third-person action title, War Devil, now to be called 'Project Kane'.

"Following a comprehensive audit of the title, assets and internal team, we have decided that a core team responsible for the Project Kane prototype will take the game into full production, led by the key vision holders," commented Hassan Sadiq, group chairman of UTV Ignition.

"There has been speculation recently about this project but our vision has always been to create top quality content both with internal and external partners and this latest commitment combines the best of the DNA behind the original project vision with some of the creative talent available in the broader industry. Outsourcing ensures flexibility and broader expertise that will dovetail perfectly with internal skill sets to speed up the process and ensure a title of true excellence."

London Executive Producer Shaun Gwilliam will lead the management team. The Design Director Julian Glover added: "We have cherry picked from some of the world's best teams to build our UK studio which includes personnel whose combined previous development credits include Burnout 3, Crysis, Little BigPlanet, and Heavenly Sword. We are extremely excited to fast-track development of Project Kane."

We are currently on track to deliver against the projected release date of Q4/2011
