lol 300.000 players in one game would be Mayhem but awesome if they could do itMicrosoft Shooting For A 300,000 Player Online Game?
Yeah, you read that right. 300,000 players. A job listing issued by Microsoft's says exactly that, indicating that the game will be for the 360 and that it will be in "real-time".
The job is specifically looking for somebody who is "an experienced server developer to help develop our server architecture. We are building an extremely high performance system to extend console games to the server in new ways; creating a completely new set of web services to support dynamic programming information of games and scheduling data".
The successful applicant and their team will be responsible for "building a backend capable of hosting a 300,000 player game in real-time with real money on the line (anti-cheating, etc)", along with constructing a new "gameplay scheduler" for Xbox Live, which sounds like it would allow players to formally organise playing sessions for this game (and others as well?).
What title could possibly require 300,000 players? Or even hope to attract that many?
Hrm. Hmm. How about that fancy Halo project?

I doubt they mean 300,000 "at the same time" though.

not entirely sure how WoW works but i honestly doubt any console could handle that kind of immediate number of players in one set space over a pc. microsoft dont even have the level of experience necessary for that kind of number unless they're in talks with other mmo type companies.

I think they were talking about doing something like this for Huxley, but I don't even know if that is coming to the 360 anymore.

Probably an MMO. I dont see how anything else could possibly work with 300,000 people.

These guys had the structure to do a 500,000 player MMO game up and running on the original Xbox about 5-6 years ago. It involved a nice little trick involving virtualising the environment across multiple servers. And that was back then, I have no idea how it has moved on since then.
Basically you could build servers that each could handle 10,000 players and then get 50 of them to work together, it would then split each world up into segments on the fly so as to dynamically jump players from one server to another without the player realizing it. As such you could have a world that appeared to be seamless and have a massive player base going at one time but have the work load split up as needed. If you needed more power in a congested area it could be able to scale the systems so that they could take up the load where ever needed.

hmm well lets see first of the map would be like couple thousand times bigger than largest map in any game at the moment
u wouldnt even see like 1000 players in one match
u wouldnt explore the whole map untill uve done it like 1000 times and yeh it may be some massive poker tournament and would be very very costly to make and i dont know who would pay and without lag would be even harder, idk what to think of this i mean i reckon mag is going to be pretty crazy i dont if people got their heads round how big this would be"Everything that has ever happened has been leading up to this very moment"
"What happened to bros before hoes?" "Well, this one isn't a hoe, so she's first."

At the same time in one game? Completely stupid and if they pulled it off I would not take part in it. Unless perhaps it's an MMO.

I think you're all wrong. I think it'll be like 1 vs 100 with 299,899 spectators, each betting to win an audience prize.
-

haha lol like 300,000 spectators betting on horses or something like that, now wouldnt that be funny maybe live sport and 300,000 people watch the match through the xbox and bet on it nd once 300,00 people are watching no one else can even watch that match u know like only 1 server

It has to be either MMO or Poker. Those are the only two scenarios that make any sense.
