    Help | Guides | Questions | Answers

Welcome to the FF Q&A Thread. Here you can ask about anything to do with the FF universe or look around the OP for information. It saves people from having to create a new thread for each question.

When questions/answers start to build up, I'll add them to the OP for a nice newcomer/veteran guide.

    Walkthroughs

    Final Fantasy IV
    Final Fantasy VII
    Final Fantasy VIII
    Final Fantasy IX
    Final Fantasy X
    Final Fantasy X-2
    Final Fantasy XII

    Questions & Answers

    Question:
Which current game will be most similar to XIV?

    Answer:
It'll play much like XI did but with a few tweaks and stuff. As for an offline one I'd say XII. When I put XII in the first thing I thought was that it was like an offline XI.

    Question:
Does FF X have minigames and optional missions like FF VII?

    Answer:
Yeah, Blitzball to name one. Not just a minigame, well, it is, but it isn't exactly small or simple. Then there's battle arena, monster collection etc. Plus each character has an ultimate weapons, most of which involve minigame parts to complete.

    Question:
Is it like turn based RPG?

    Answer:
Most FF games are turn based but some aren't

    Question:
Which game should I start out with?

    Answer:
Most people recommend either FF VII or FF X.

Thought I would start off by asking which current game will be most similar to XIV? I know it's an MMO but want to know more about how it will function.

    Thanks.

Another question. Does FF X have minigames and optional missions like FF VII?

Seems like I'll fill this thread by myself

Most people recommend either FF VII or FF X.

    A question of my own:
About how many hours is FF VII and FF X?

Some are real-time turnbased like FFVII-IX (the enemy can still attack you whilst your choosing what to do)

FFX is turn based where the enemy cannot attack you whilst you choose what to do, things like your stats and certain abilities are what decide who's turn it is to attack.

I make it sound like a strategy game but trust me it isn't

If you can handle the graphics of FFVII then go for it but if you want something that looks better then go for FFX on the PS2.

You can't go wrong with either of them.

The main storyline for FFVII is around 40-45 hours, for FFX it's around 35-40.

If you do all the extra stuff for any FF game at the end then your looking at 100 hours or more.

Did some optional stuff in FF VII (chocobo breeding, about 10 battles in battle arena and killed Ultimate Weapon + about 15 hours of grinding total) and it took approx 63 hours to get to the credits.

Hmm, I guess my question goes here..
Is there something, say, special about FF VI's battle system? Like.. VII had Materia, VIII had junctioning + magic drawing, IX had skills that could be learned from items (not that special though), X had that board thing instead of levels and XII was, well, completely different.
Just wondering if I should start playing FF VI, I've heard good stuff about the story and I can take the graphics, but if the battle system has nothing special, I probably couldn't finish the game.

FFVI used the Esper system. Espers were summons basically, each one had spells linked to it that your character would learn to use over time...as well as stat increases. Technically you could have each and every character learn all the magic in the game by running each character through each espers spell list.

Magic isn't what made the characters unique in FFVI, the characters are what made the characters unique. Each had their own spice about them, special ability or technique. But magic will never be a limiting factor because everyone can learn all of it.

Doesn't sound like anything special to me.
Eh.. Oh well, I guess I'll give it a shot later. Right now I'll probably stick to getting everything in FF X.

Been playing VII for just under an hour and it's great.

    However, I have some questions:

    1. Who are Shinra?
    2. Who are SOLIDER?
    3. What is Mako energy? Fuel?
    4. Is Tifa married to Barret?
    5. When you level up, do your stats increase on their own?

    Game rocks!

The game kinda throws you in to the whole thing but later on you will get clarification on alot of things.

-Shinra are an electric power company, they own the Mako reactors.

    -SOLIDER are Shinra's elite army

-Mako energy is the lifestream (the planets energy) Shinra suck it out of the planet and use it as energy/electricity and sell it to people, it's slowly killing the planet and thats why Barret and co are blowing up the reactors. Obviously Shinra don't really care they are killing the planet, they just care about making money.

    - Barret and Tifa just live in the same bar, no love thing going on between them

-Yeh when you level up your stats increase, buying new weapons and items also increase your stats.

Make sure you buy a few extra restore materia's (that gives you the ability cure in battle) and buy 2-3 extra lightning materia. Most of the early bosses are machines and lightning attacks hurt them alot more.

If the battle speed is too slow or fast then you can change the speed of it from the menu by going in to config.

Oh yeh forgot to mention this, to escape random battles hold down R1 and L1 at the same time.

If the enemy is easy then it's best to kill it for the exp.

Anytime, all your characters start running away (well, they don't really move) and when you've hold R1 and L1 long enough, they escape. That's it.
AFAIK, they can't escape while on Wait mode (i.e. someone's attacking and so on, the word over the rightmost bars is "wait", not "time")

Sorry for double post, need to get attenciooooonah.

Anyways, a question about FF Tactics, the PS1 version.
Do the enemies level up as you level up? I mean, even the enemies on the first place (that.. Field or something) are lvl7 now that my MC is lvl7.

    Reminder for newbies.

This is a reminder to anyone starting out on Final Fantasy.

When battling to level up SAVE OFTEN!

I spent hours and hours levelling up in the swamp area in the northern crater of FF7. I had mastered heaps of materia and thought I couldn't go wrong when...BOOM, I was flattened by LV3 Flare!

Nearly broke my TV with my controller

Hey I got a question, after you get Ixion in D'jose temple in FFX. You talk to a girl outside the temple and then you keep moving in a place, like a forset. And some nice music play during that. Does anybody know which music is that?
