W7 in general is what VISTA should have been really W7 dosn't have that constant HDD activity like VISTA does even when it's not doing anything it's still using the HDD.
I am on XP SP3 I have a decent speced system
Windows XP Pro SP3
AMD Phenom 9550 AM2+ (4x 2.2ghz - B3 Rev)
Gigabyte GA-MA78G DS3H AM2+ (R1.0 BIOS F4)
Kingston H-X 4GB PC8500 1066Mhz DDR2 v2.1 (5-5-5-15)
Some RMA'd HDD from Seagate (Soon To Be Replaced)
Inno3D 8600GT 256mb PCI-E (Stock)
Samsung LightScribe DVD-RW
Active Power 850w Mod PSU
I'll be moving over to W7 RC1 64bit next week when my OCZ Vertex SSD arrives as W7 is going on that and my main storage will be the 250gb I currently have. But thats getting replaced for a WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATA-II HDD next month and then a upgrade to graphics from what I have now to a HD4770.
I'm looking forward to testing W7 RC1 64bit I did use the BETA version when I had OC2 2GB kit and I got used to it's confusing desktop and I didn't mind it.

Is this a Vista issue? I kept on reinstalling THQ's company of heroes not knowing you needed internet for a patch.. Not only did I lose, without getting it back, tons of hdd space. But, now it goes up and down the hdd space whenever I reboot.
I for one always thought uninstall = returns to previous state or, you basically get the space back.

I'm still using Windows XP (SP3) and I've had no problems using it whatsoever. I intend to use it for a few more years and only when I'm forced to switch will I consider using Windows Vista or Windows 7. Until then, XP will do me fine.

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

I agree with you 100%. Every time someone complains about vista, it's usually about it using so much ram when it really isn't. Last time I posted info on how it really works but It was ignored and I was told something was wrong with me for using Vista.

I'm on vista 64bit and haven't had a single problem with it.

+1 for upgrading to Windows 7. I'm using it right now and haven't had ANY problems with it.

I agree with the above. I used Vista Ultimate for such a long time and my only real complaint was the slowness of it. I've switched to Windows 7 and love it so much because it's like Vista but way faster. Even my friend was surprised at how fast my laptop is with Win7. I can't go back to XP anymore just like XP users can't go back to 98. :P

I don't have any issues with vista outside normal random windows problems that I've been getting on 95, 98, melienium, and xp for years.

Used Windows 7 RC for the weekend. Installed Gears of War..got to the screen to load my profile via Windows LIVE, app crashed.
I turned off most of the visual effects in Win7 and got it to a spot where it didn't look like it was trying to hard to almost look as good as OS X..and I was content with it, but regardless of what others may think...it's not FASTER than XP. Maybe once it has video drivers that will allow me to play EVERY game I install, I'll go back. Or maybe when I get Windows 7 Enterprise next month I'll install an actual copy of Windows 7 instead of an RC.
Right now, XP works as a gaming OS better than Windows 7. Yeah, it lacks DirectX 10 support, but really, for those minimal features my games would take a pretty good performance hit.
Maybe Win7 next month.PSN: XPlatformJEDI

I didn't think Vista was all that bad. Since the RC for 7 is out I would have definitely went for that first before going down to WinXP. I wouldn't really call it a BETA, especially since it runs extremely smooth with little or no crashes. I've yet to have any crashes with the OS and all my programs and games run fine on it.
Since you had to do a fresh install anyways (only way to downgrade an OS) I would have went with Windows 7 anyways to at least give it a try.

I had VISTA 64 Ult on my computer and I never had a single issue with it. Maybe it deals more with store bought computers or what not. My laptop came with Vista Home and it would BSOD maybe 1 time a week, not frequently.
I installed my Ult copy on it and it ran flawless. Now its got W7 on it and its running even better.
P.S., XP sucks.

I'm considering building a high spec gaming PC capable of the highest quality of gaming. I might just stick W7 on it or XP Pro. Can't decide. Probably by the time I get round to it W7 will be released anyway so I might just put that on.
