Police are lawbreakers to
SourcePolice in Australia are to review how they use Taser guns after the death of a man in Queensland who was stunned possibly as much as 28 times by one of the powerful electronic weapons.
Antonio Galeano, 39, an amphetamines addict, collapsed and died 15 minutes after being stunned by a 50,000-volt Taser gun during a confrontation with police in Brandon, near Townsville in far north Queensland last Friday.
Police said initially that he had been shot three times, but data recorded on the Taser gun has shown that it was triggered 28 times. It is unknown if Mr Galeano was hit by all of the electric shock bursts.
How insane is this!!!
(F3AR I know yar a cop to, but this is so absurd. I believe you are different than these cops)

What rock have you been living under for the last 100 years ?
Its a well known fact most cops are just as bent as the criminals they arrest.

It needs one to know one.
This is the problem but also the solution to catch criminals.
The problem is that the police are given arms which actually is not needed. To catch a armed crook you send in the special task team.
But the law is different in every country.

Not all Cops are bad. There are plenty that actually have the job for the soul purpose of helping keep the streets safe.
However! There are other cops that have the job simply because they want authority over others. That is why some cops are lawbreakers themselves. They begin to get a sense of power and invincibility and therefore think they're on top of the world. That is why things like this happen. That cop obviously felt that he could do whatever he wanted regardless of how un lawful it was.SchaffinOSX

Cops are people too. There's good people and bad people. Your job doesn't make you a good person. That's why we have rapist priests.

Correct. The media over here is going mental with this story "Man shot with over 1,000,000V". I have been told by a sparky(Electricain) mate that it's safer to get zapped by 415V (three phase power) than what it is 240V (single phase) as the 240V shock is more likely to put your heart out of rythem.
They only know the stun gun was activated 28 times. They are not sure how many times the guy got hit with it.
I'm not defending all cops, you get shonky *******s in every profession. I just love how people have such hatred for police. I could not imagine a worse job to do, you get to deal with the filth of society, spend many man hours to get an arrest just so some limp **** judge can politely ask them not to do it again.
I see you did not include the part of the story that tells you this guy was mentally unstable due to meth use (he was in hospital for it) armed himself and then started threatening police. What the **** did he think was going to happen?

Nothing new about bad cops. It's a shame most people associate police officers with scary and power abusing persons. It is also quite remarkable that a lot of cops are easy to identify when not working from they way they socialise.
I guess we are a bit lucky for that matter in western Europe, most of the cops here are supposed to be nice with a few exceptions. At least in comparison with southern Europe and US.

I won't take any of the attacks on cops in this thread personally because only two people on these forums actually know me in real life.
As far as the article goes... there are a few things that aren't mentioned and usually aren't because it wouldn't be as controversial.
First, the tazer records ALL discharges, how long the bursts, etc. The article doesn't mention any of that. 28 discharges could mean lifetime, or it could actually be in a certain period of time within the boundaries of this incident. Also, all the cases that I've read that have been reviewed when tazers are deployed and someone dies, there is an underlying cause that resulted in death; in this case the guy is a meth addict. Yea, he's perfectly healthy, and the tazer killed him. He was also SHOT three times.
The thing I do have a problem with is that is says they used capsicum spray, aka capstun, THEN used the tazer... OH NOEZ!! That is a bad no no, period. The oil base of capstun is FLAMMABLE!!!! They should know better than to use capstun THEN tazer. They are really lucky, if the article is accurate on that, that the guy didn't burst into flames.
Again, this is all speculation as the article isn't going to be complete until the full investigation is completed. Even then they might not release ALL the info. Meh... **** happens.
Another thing I'd have to ask is, WHY use the tazer? If he's already been shot three times, HOPEFULLY they had legal cause to use deadly force. If after three shots the guy isn't down, I'd have 42 more shots to finish the job. Why the hell would I pull a tazer? I wouldn't. It doesn't make any sense. Maybe it's because the article is incomplete; or maybe the officers really ****ed up on this one.
I could go on and on lol....

Fear - First off big respect for the job that you do. (provided you are not a traffic cop
).
If they find that the officer's involved acted with just cause and are in no way in the wrong we will never hear of this case again. Just some more sensationalist journalism from the Aus media.
He was not shot with a firearm either, they thought he had been "shot" 3 times with the taser. As you said the taser may have been fired 28 times since being put into service. If a meth addict armed with a weapon threatens police I do not see what other option they have.

Update: They have just done the autopsy and found that he died of a heart attack, not really any surprise there.
One of the physical side affects of meth use is increased heartrate. So chances are he had some underlying heart problem and the zap just made it give up. His death is on his own shoulders, if he had of surrendered to police he would still be alive, in jail but alive nevertheless.

Yeah I think it was just the stress of the coke or meth coupled with the rush of the police and taser gun. The guy was 39 on amphetamines, People have heart attacks at 40 when they are perfectly healthy. He doesn't really have the body to be doing that crap anymore he isn't 18.
