What input do you speakers have? 3.5m jack?

If so, you need one of these.

And then use your standard PS3 AV cable for the sound.

All I do is connect the black RCA into the phono jack of my TV which gives you the stereo sound from 2 of the speakers and the bass from the sub. Good enough for me until I can afford a proper set-up.

So, can we use both HDMI and AV cable, HDMI for video output only and AV for sound because I have a monitor that has really low quality inbuilt speakers and I'm contemplating buying a new set of speakers for my PS3 so I was wondering we can run both at the same time without any problems. Thanks.

Yes you can send the sound to either the optical or av out when using HDMI.

Yes. When setting up the audio options have it output through A/V cables. When setting up the video options have it output through HDMI.
