Konami issues statement on MGS4 trophy patch

Ever since the trophy system was introduced in July of 2008, fans of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on the Playstation 3 have been asking Konami and Kojima Productions to patch trophies into the game. However, both have remained silent on the issue until now.

In the latest Kojima Productions podcast, Sean Eyestone issued the following statement:

"Just to address one issue that we’ve been getting a lot of comments about. And this is, of course, about trophies.

I just wanna tell everybody out there right now that your voices are being heard and that we’re not ignoring you. We hear everything that you are saying. It’s just that we can’t say anything just yet.

But as soon as we have something to say, we will announce it. So, if we can just ask everyone to just be patient, we will give you an answer. But right now we can’t say anything. So we just ask for everyone’s understanding with that and just ask for everybody to remain patient and we’ll let you know."

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released exclusively for the Playstation 3 on June 12, 2008. Trophies support didn’t become a requirement until 2009. Still, many developers decided to patch it in their games, which pre-dated the feature, as a courtesy move to their fan base. With Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots being one of the best-selling games on the Playstation 3, Kojima Productions should reward those who bought their game.

If they were going to add trophies, it would've been done a while ago...

Definitely sounds like they're considering it though. I'm sure they're getting some pressure from Sony as well. Would love it to happen.

It seems strange that they are keeping so quiet about it though, they could be looking at possibly adding trophies or are trying to add trophies. I think if they were not going to do it they would just say, and if they are...Thier taking thier sweet time about it

Considering that since MGS was launched on PSX, Konami has released updated versions of every major episode in the series:

Metal Gear Solid: Integral
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus

So my guess is that we will see something similar happen to MGS4 and it will probably be released with trophies!

Considering or they just want a break from all the trophy requesting emails they get.

Maybe there will be news in Gamescom which is like 10 days away.

hopefully they add trophies. even better would be an -tance edition. vr missions, snake tales. mg1 and 2. boss rush, movie theater. no perodic install (or optional. periodic vs 1 big install)

Jesus why would it need an announcement anyway? It's just a trophy patch for God Sake. Seriously if they can't get one together after so many requests then just forget about it, the amount of time wasted in emails being sent just isn't worth it. You would think that people were asking for some awesome DLC or something with the way they are talking.

I definitely think it's coming, otherwise they would say. I think it's just a low priority and they will get round to it when they have a bit free time in their development schedule.

Sounds alot like that "we hear you" statement back in FEBRUARY.

Highly doubt a patch will be released.

It seems more unlikely as time goes by. Maybe they're going to release a new version of the game with trophies though. It would make sense as to why they're being so quiet.

Sales of MGS4 have been the only thing keeping Konami from bankruptcy. Have you seen their last quarter balance now that sales are drying up? They will most certainly release an expanded version of MGS4 soon in order to keep the cash coming in.

I think that will be when trophies arrive. I also think that they will not patch the old version in order to drive sales of the 'new' game.

Any re-release/updated version of MGS4 would have to come with Trophies now anyway, so if another is in the pipeline, its pretty much guaranteed.
