http://news4gamers.com/ps3/News-1569.aspxAt the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2006 last May in Los Angeles, Sony announced that its forthcoming PlayStation 3 console would debut worldwide on November 17 of this year. The company also revealed the console's two price points. Nintendo, on the other hand, was much vaguer about its new generation Wii console, choosing only to say that it would be less expensive than competitors and would arrive around the globe sometime in the "fourth quarter."
Despite what the Big N has said publicly, publishers and developers have prepping many of their Wii titles for an October release. This in of itself is not proof that Wii will also debut in October, but the data certainly doesn't conflict with the argument.
On top of everything else, this week industry sources have relayed that - in something of a surprise attack -- "Nintendo is planning to launch Wii before PlayStation 3." The latest word jives with publisher release calendars, whose Wii titles are scheduled in many cases for a mid-to-late October debut or, in some cases, very early November
would be interesting to see how the sales of Wii and PS3 would go if Nintendo get their system out first particularly in Japan.
Personaly i think they are after different audiences but I think Sony may be slightly worried about the Wii beating it by a couple of weeks and stealing its thunder

Wii to come out before PS3?

I think it could be a great move for nintendo. If the wii is as good as they promise, then they will have a few weeks for it to catch on, which may make a few potential ps3 buyers buy the Wii instead.
If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.

They definitely need to get it out before the PS3. That would probably sway a lot of people.

If the Wii is released before the PS3, I'd be very tempted to buy it first and then save up again to buy the PS3 after its launch. The wait will be worth it because most of the PS3 games I'd like to buy won't be at launch but instead released later in 2007.

Nintendo released many statements a long time ago that said they did not want to be the last person out of the gate. However they backpeddled on this and said that they would release it around the same time as the PS3. There is no question that they would like to release it before the PS3, if the hardware is a go I expect it to be out very early nov or late october. Just my guess.
I miss my dreamcast.

If it comes out first it would give itself a chance to impress the public in games shops before the PS3 comes out and puts it in the shade somewhat with flashier graphics
Talking of game shops, it will be interesting to see how shops set up their displays as the controler is usualy bolted down to the display cabinet but with the Wii that wont be possible. Id imagine the only way to appreciate the Wii would be to get some hands on time and not just to watch a demo so the stores may need to think of something for this one!"Ever since I started working each day has been worse than the one before, so no matter what day you see me its the worst day of my life".

As I said before. My birthday is October 18th and a Wii release at around that time would be mighty sweet to me.

If nintendo tried to do that, when they couldnt, the console would be rushed and it would suck. Course i think that even if they took their sweet time with it, it would still suck but thats just me. nintendo is more for kids you know thats why i cant stand it, im way too old for their annoying games. Still though even if nintendo managed to put it out before ps3 and it was as good as what they wanted, would be a good move but it wouldnt work. Ps3 will sell out hard. Playstation series are pretty much the top consoles, with the xbox series an atoms length behind. Then down the road nintendo is behind, by alot, heaving and puffing to try to catch up. Not gonna happen though. Nintendo doesn't have the ability that Microsoft and Sony does.

Despite what people say (and I think this is a well known fact) Nintendo's profits equal Sony's profits TOTAL (approximately). And this is with the poor sales of the GameCube. If the Wii does better than the GameCube (which it obviously will, and probably quite a lot better) this will give Nintendo's RD development a huge boost in cash and they can start taking on higher end graphics with their new style of gaming.
http://www.buzzcut.com/article.php?s...05053122342247Fortune 500 execs read, clocks in with a net margin of 11% Nintendo’s business engine is so efficient that even though they sell far less than Sony, they make, bottom line, about as much as all of Sony, Yes, that’s right. Little Nintendo generates about as much cash as giant Sony—electronics, movies, the works. (For a bunch of good financial data on this subject in one place, see PCVSConsole).

I honestly don't "believe" that and I don't exactly know where you got the idea from that either. I think though in next-gen Nintendo will obviously have to release a system with improved graphics - I'm not saying the Wii is bad, but it makes sense with their gaming is reality platform that the Wii is performing. Interactivity is one part of the platform, but realism through graphics must be another one of their goals. If you must know, Nintendo has already stated that they can produce tech-heavy hardware, but felt that it was becoming stagnant. Not everyone has to be a follower like Sony or M$ would have you to believe.

THis could be good or bad...i mean if they realease like 1 month before the system probably start selling poorly...i mean people willa t least wait till ps3 is around before makign a prucahnce...its jsut 1 month difference.
If they come out a couple of days from ps3 release...or same day...then people will imediately decide which one they want...they would alreayd seen the competition is offering.
Also if they come out early...they might looose alot of hype...ala 360 style...LOSING-if at first you don’t succeed failure may just be your style

Depends though, If you believe what Nintendo ( and even Sony and MS) say then the Wii isnt in competition with PS3 and 360 as its aiming at a different market. Personaly Im not convinced and agree with you that if it was 1 month then people would be inclined to wait. If I could choose id have them launch on the same day as PS3 as this would ensure massive publicity for both systems and would create quite a frenzy of excitement id imagine

This will not affect anything...
Wii and PS3 will sell out fast in any case at launch. Nintendo said that they too will have 2 mil units ready at launch, or am I wrong?
I think Wii will sell out in a day or so.

There's no negative effects if Wii was released a month before PS3. It's mostly good. The situation will probably be totally opposite as some of you say. If Wii's launch games offer solid gameplay (that is, controller work well and games don't feel awkward) and Nintendo gets the marketing right, people won't wait (or... at least everybody else but fanboys won't wait).
So... Basically if Nintendo doesn't have any problems with hardware or software, I don't see this earlier launch harming them, it's the opposite, it will help them, as maybe some may-buy-a-PS3 gamers get tired of waiting and spend some of their money to get Wii.

So far there is nothing from the official website. I daresay this is just pure speculation at this point. The next major gamer conference is in September in Japan. We should know more by that time of the Wii's launch details. If I was Sony I would start feeling nervous since the Wii will be less than half of the PS3's launch price with some pretty interesting game titles coming soon to a retail store near you.

Why would Sony be concerned about the sequal to a little kid console that remakes and rips off games from other consoles? Ever wonder why Nintendo put a low price on Gamecube? Because nobody would buy the crock of sh!t for more than $100. Why you may ask? Because that console is horrific and displays a horrible selection of games made for little kids.

It would be an excellent move by Nintendo. Especially in Japan, they could take lead of the holiday season over there if they do. That would be a great boost for them.

Logical Steps
For me it's a rather logical move. Nintendo will only have a month jump on the Ps3, not to early nor on the same day or there around.
Personally I don't want to have to share the parking lot with more people than nessessary.
Especially, even though many of us are geeks reading this, there are the some out there that would cause problems with cross-platform shareing of parking lots.
I just hate people, so the less there, the better. (Buy from a mom and pop store!!)
But with a marketing scheme, it allows everyone to finally experience why
Playing = Believing
Yes there will be some that will not be happy with the graphics, and thats ok. If the controls work as we wish them too they will have accomplished their goals.
Now selling out will be a problem. Some say that they won't sell at all. But according to both Sony and Microsoft they want the Wii as the second console to theirs. Thus putting Nintendo in to a very nice position.
For every M$ fanchild that won't buy a Ps3, would with a pretty good chance, if the bigN does things right, buy a Wii. Thus sales there.
The same goes for the Sony fanchildren. If Nintendo does us good, they will sell there.
Then on to us, the Nintendologists (fanboy for lamen terms), will add our support.
In the end it all lies with the non-gamer to really add the punch, and we'll wait to see .
So between the combined help of M$ and Sony, this would easily boost up the sales in Nintendos Favor.
Lastly, to address the lack of graphical power and "kiddy" games. This is simple and to the point.
Yes their graphics will not be HDTV, only EDTV, but as its been said before, I fully beleive in the Theory of Uncanny Valley
According the NPR (National Public Radio--everyone should listen to this, its real news). The TV industry doensn't even plan to have a majority of house holds with HDTV, with standardized security protocols, for another 8-10 years. Thats the next-next-gen console.
And kiddy games, come on, everyone loves Mario and yes there will be the more Adult games now that the third-party development abandon the other consols and fall inline with Wii. Thats all that has to be said there.
Hence, if Nintendo can bank on the Wii, what we call next-gen grapics will be outdated by the time we see another console. Then they can combine the Experience and the Visuals to truly inspire the mind of the gamer.
Thats my logic. Whats yours?
