i wish they would move on get to more conspiracy stuff instead of stand alone like episodes (formatted JUST like the x-files was) espically as this is on the endangered list as its on prime slot now.......(one of my favourite shows)

I liked espisode 8 with the Observers etc, havent watched 9 yet

One of the main reasons I dropped Smallville, the 'freak of the week' got old, I just wanted to complete story arc.

I kind of disagree with a lot of you. I like character-driven episodes, and would hope they would stick to that format. It makes the characters more rich and deeper as opposed to how fast the story arc was going. Don't get me wrong, I want to see completed story arcs as well, but I thought it was moving way too fast into an area that would be hard to come back from (end of the world, etc)...

Yeah, it was some crazy stuff.

I used to think that one particular scene in the nightmare episode where the one woman thought her employees were cannibals was disturbing, as you were being shown what she was seeing. I don't really mind at all, though. That's just something you're going to have to get used to as the cases the Fringe team investigate are likely to get even more bizarre.

And Walter, that guy is awesome. He's just one of the reasons why the show is so great.

Tonight's episode was pretty good. Definitely had me on the edge of my seat.

According to Fringe's 2010 schedule, the next episode is said to air on the 14th of January. The air date for its winter finale is set for the 4th of February, at which point it'll return with all new episodes on the 1st of April.

I love what they're doing with Walter Bishop's story arc. Sometimes it almost brings me to tears. But then I rip out some chest hair and remind myself I have testicles.

I thought the last episode was pretty good, with the work of Walter's father being corrupted and used to harm mankind, but it's just another "freak of the week" episode. Nothing that necessarily ties into the actual story arc. There is a little twist in every episode, though. And I like the relationship between Peter and his father.

But I like that they've finally confirmed that because Walter's relationship with Peter is one of the reasons that I like watching the show.

But that's it for now. Apparrently the show will be returning in April. Ratings have improved with the last couple episodes, which is good, although I have read about how they've started to cut down on production costs.

I liked how everything was written. I think it was mostly my personal interests in scientific phenomena like this with the builds merging and the people reassembling incorrectly was really intriguing.

And then the experiment to get Olivia's ability back was well done I thought.

Of course, the twist ending actually caught me off guard at first so it was a nice surprise, but then I remembered Walter talking about how he had saved or lost his son before. It was good though that they continued and wove that into this episode.

Production wise I thought the "glimmer" effect was a subtle and cheap but not cheesy way to handle that idea. It works without needing anything elaborate.

I wonder what production cuts they did though. Hopefully its more efficiency than cutting down the series.

So...they let us know that Oliva knows that Peter is from the other side (just as they were about to get it on) then they go on break for 8 WEEKS???!!!

Great returning episode and backstory. They did a great job writing this episode. Personally I'm more interested in the story moving forward, but this was well done. Can't wait to see next weeks.

It also looks like Fringe has been renewed for a 3rd season with a full 22 episodes, according to multiple sites now.

Well, I wasn't pleased with this week's episode. It didn't really move the story forward.

That being said, hopefully next week's episode will be better.

Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" Review

A new force from the other side arrives.

April 23, 2010 - Fringe is on a roll, folks. These past few episodes have been stellar. This latest installment delivered action, suspense, mystery, and the final climax to the drama that has building up since the end of last season: Peter learns the truth about his origins!

But before we get into the Bishop family secrets, let me say that the thing that surprised me most about this episode was the high technical quality. There's a lot of CGI in this one, and it's all very well done, and so are the shape shifter embryos, which are a nice concept and the prop work is done pretty well. The props/makeup work in the previous two episodes was sub-par at best, but the effects team got back on track with some really impressive work this time. The scene with the partially aborted shape shifter embryo getting jump-started is fantastic.

Of course, though the special effects were a nice treat, they were merely the icing on a delicious layer cake of story, action, and further advancement of the Fringe mythology. We've had a good string of episodes that focused on the main storyline, and they've all been great. This one brought back our current villain, Thomas Jerome Newton. He's still a mystery himself, and now he's bringing even more new questions into the series. This episode marks the first mention of The Secretary, who is apparently the guy Newton has been working for in the other universe. Who is this mystery man? The easy money is on Walternate (that certainly looks like Noble's nose under that mask), but we'll have to wait and see if the series has a surprise twist in store.

Another first in this episode is an in-depth discussion of how Peter's mother died. We only got to see Elizabeth Bishop very briefly in the "Peter" episode, but it was clear how much her son's loss affected her. The revelation that her sorrow, compounded by her guilt, drove her to suicide is another sad chapter in the depressing Bishop book. But it's also brilliant storytelling, and everything involving the Peter storyline in these last few episodes has been handled expertly. Even the small things, like Peter starting to say "dad" instead of "Walter". Every little bit of the writing added more emotional energy to the story.

The scene with Peter in the hospital brings everything together. Weeks of waiting and watching finally paid off. We knew this confrontation wouldn't end well, that it couldn't end well, but that didn't keep this moment from hitting hard anyway. The scene is carried by excellent performances from both Joshua Jackson and John Noble (as usual), and some simple but effective writing (that "You're not my father" line was a killer).

I'm kind of torn on this ending of the Peter's Secret saga, because although I do like the irony of Peter figuring out things on his own whilst saving the day, I was really looking forward to an epic scene where John Noble would get the chance to actually portray Walter telling his son, face to face, what happened. That would have been the quintessential, defining moment of the Walter character, where he does exactly what he feared he would have to do for so many years. Instead, the matter is taken out of his hands, and I just can't help but feel like we might have missed out on an even better scene if things had been written differently.

There are a few other gripes I have with this story. For one, I found it a bit odd that the shape shifters would just leave bodies lying around to be found. I would think that they would learn better in Body Snatching 101. Also, though I like the return of badass Olivia, who caps a fake cop in the brain pan, her investigative reasoning is a bit contrived. I mean, the cop's radio could've been dead and he'd have to use his phone. And she didn't even shoot that guy, she shot his partner who was just standing there. He could have just been a bystander. And I do hope that Astrid becomes something more than Walter's parrot in future episodes.

Still, even with those flaws, this episode is a great achievement that marks a big turning point for the series. Walter's secret is out, and his son is off on his own again. Press releases indicate that Peter won't be absent from the series though: he's supposed to be a major player in an episode a couple weeks from now. But before that, we have next week's possibly-awesome, possibly-horrible, Fringe musical
