Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Two surprise announcements followed an equally surprising live musical performance by Miley Cyrus at Disney's D23 Expo.
Disney Studios Chairman **** Cook officially named Summer 2012 as the release date for Pixar's John Carter of Mars, claiming that the film will, indeed, be live-action with intense special effects.
Following the announcement, Johnny Depp appeared in full Jack Sparrow costume, taking the stage and announcing a Summer 2011 release date for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the new title for the fourth installment!

Fourth Pirates Based on Powers' On Stranger Tides?
Source
This afternoon, Walt Disney Pictures made the big announcement at the D23 Expo that the fourth "Pirates" film will hit theaters in Summer 2011 and be titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Speculation has already begun that the subtitle "On Stranger Tides" refers to author Tim Powers' novel with the same name. The following is the official description of the book:
Puppeteer John Chandagnac, who was sailing to Jamaica to get revenge on the uncle who had stolen his father's inheritance, has no choice but to join the buccaneers who have taken him prisoner--and soon, known now as the pirate Jack Shandy, he finds himself learning to survive in a treacherous new world of cutlass-fights, sea-battles, and voodoo magic on sun-blinded tropical islands. The legendary Blackbeard is assembling a ruthless navy of pirates living and undead to voyage to the fabled Fountain of Youth, and Jack Shandy must use magic, swordsmanship, and even his puppeteer skills to free himself and the girl he has fallen in love with from Blackbeard's deadly supernatural domination.
At the end of the third "Pirates" movie, it is shown that both Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) are next eyeing the Fountain of Youth. Barbossa has "stolen" the Black Pearl back from Sparrow, but Sparrow has cut out the most important part of Barbossa's map to the Fountain of Youth.
If they will be adapting the book, will Sparrow and Barbossa have to team up again against Blackbeard? We'll have to wait and see how it will turn out.
Sounds like the next movie might be worth seeing. As long as Bloom and Knightly don't show up, I'll be happy.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Announced

I agree NoUseMercenary, if this movie focuses on just Barbossa and Sparrow with Blackbeard thrown in the mix it could get good again. Will Turner and Elizabeth's storyline needs to be left alone. It already started to drag out.
I'm really interested to see what the live-action movie, John Carter of Mars has in store. Isn't John Lasseter working on that?

I do understand that, and I'll be watching the trailers with caution. However, I think there is some room for optimism in that what I felt was hurting those movies (the two previous... mostly the third though) has now been stripped out. At least on paper, it seems that they have only the fun and interesting characters now.
Aside from that... this fourth one better not be longer than 2 hours. Freaking hour long sea battles.
EDIT: Nevermind... the article doesn't say Elizabeth and Will won't be in it. I'm getting ahead of myself.

I agree, no more Will and Elizabeth.
this movie could be epic if it's a straight pirate movie. I have heard (unconfirmed) that there are rumors that Jack Sparrow's brother will appear in the 4th film.If you add me on PSN, please say you are from here!

Sounds like a good story line that will focus on Sparrow and Barbossa.
Sounds like it will be a long one, which doesn't bother me because I actually really enjoyed all 3 POtC movies and was fine sitting through them in the movies.

Well to answer the first question... movies that FEEL long are the problem. Pirates 3 felt really dragged out.
And your right, the first one is over 2 hours. So let me adjust my statement. The movie better not be longer than 3 hours. Pirates 3 was only 11 minutes under 3 hours vs Pirates 1 which was under 2 and a half. More importantly the first one was good... not dragged out.

I guess we should say our opinions on the 3 movies so far.
I liked all 3 but im completely sick of Will and Elizabeth and i fully support it just being Sparrow vs Barbossa.

I hope they leave Will Turner and Elizabeth are left out of it. It was beginning to drag on by Dead Man's Chest and I don't think I could stomach any more soppy romance in a fourth Pirates film. Still, it could have Blackbeard in which would make up for everything.
Edit: They can't really continue the Elizabeth/Will storyline as Turner is condemned to the ocean, except for one day a year, when they can meet on land. It would be impossible to carry it on.

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

Never was a fan of Elizabeth, Jack Sparrow should of booted her *** of the ship. Can't wait to see what they do with this one though...

For me the third was a letdown and much to short (even if my friend Larry starred as one of the extra's in the movie).
If they really focus on Sparrow's character then maybe then can salvage this franchise. He is the focal point of which all other characters are associated with any way.

If they take it to a new direction I might be interested. Sparrow and Barbarossa are great characters with much potential that has not been utilized. I will not be rushing to the movies on this one thats for sure.

I will probably watch the new one. But I believe that Kiera is not in this one. Its just Jack and Barbossa.

Like others have said I hope they leave will and elizabeth out or if necessary have a cameo or something but no more drama.
