I've been watching the Firefly series for free through my Amazon prime account. I'm loving it a lot so I just bought Serenity on blu-ray.

FYI The series had Joss Whedon at the helm. Same man who directed The Avengers. It sort of feels like a mixture of Uncharted and Mass Effect. That's pretty close to perfect for me.

I have multiple CDs from both. Being an old guy, I have a pretty diverse range of music that I like, as long as the music is done with instruments and not mixed computer sounds. Don't care for hip hop, rap, or country, nor the extreme side of metal rock, but anything from 60s to current rock-based music, jazz, the blues, even some more classical stuff (accoustic, not full orchestra).
If you go back in this thread about 2 weeks you'll see the door speakers and rear speakers I bought. It will have some good thumping bass, but it's going to sound good in all ranges, and with a wide variety of music.Last edited by Completely Average; 07-19-2012 at 20:32.

Nice, cannot wait to see them installed! I'm only 22, but I would say I have a diverse taste in music too, versus a few years ago where I listened to rap exclusively..now I hate it..and I'm starting to dread even the classics. I do like experimental electronic music like drum and bass or trip hop. Portishead has such a sexy voice.

You would probably be disappointed. From a "looks" aspect, I'm keeping it looking entirely stock. The amp will be hidden underneath the rear deck between the rear speakers. You will have to stick your head inside the trunk and look up to see it. Even the subwoofer enclosure I got is custom designed to keep the subwoofer off in the corner of the trunk, only visible if you look in from the side.
This is what the sub will look like when it's installed.

I wanted to keep the car looking stock so if anyone walks by and looks in the window, they won't see anything to tempt them into breaking in. Just a factory Ford radio system.

That's a good idea, which reminds me of when I installed my MP3 player in the car without the harness...I can pull it out easily and connect it back just the same. Why pay $50-70 for a bullshit install when you can DIY? And there was already another aftermarket CD player by Blaupankt in there so it made the job much easier. Plus, it's fun doing things yourself, gives you experience. Enjoy your system.

I cannot agree more. Even more important, I know that I'll do the job right, where some "pro" shop will probably do a hack job and damage the car in the process.
A great example of DIY being better is rewiring the door speakers. Most "pro" shops will do the unforgivable. They will drill a hole through the front fender and the door, like this:

Generally, if you're lucky they will install the rubber grommets, but by drilling they void the manufacturers rust warranty, they promote rusting by scuffing and removing the paint, as well as leaving an unpainted hole in the metal, and they expose the wire to damage through crimping and weathering (and chaffing if no grommet is used).
When I installed my door speakers I did the right thing. I removed the factory molex connector, removed the factory speaker wires from the connector, and then drilled the holes all the way through and ran the new wires through that,
Like this:

Remove the old wires, drill through slightly larger than the new wires you're installing, rin the new wires through, and secure both ends so they don't move around. Factory warranty is protected, paint and body are undamaged, and the wires are run through a waterproof tube and connector designed for wires to run through it.
But, since it takes about an hour per door to do, most shops won't. They would rather drill holes in the body and get the job done in 5 minutes instead.
Anyways, I think I've highjacked this thread enough with that subject. If you want to discuss it more perhaps we should make a dedicated thread for it.
