A clock in the bottom right makes the film far scarier because it makes it look like its from a camcorder... Ooooohh.

I wasn't too intent on seeing this until I saw it has a 95% rating on Rottentomatoes with 42 reviews. Now I'm on board the hype train CHOO-CHOO!!! I'll be seeing this soon.

I'm sorry, but this movie looks boring...

I actually find it ironic that people say Cloverfield was "decent" (I thought it was awesome), but then movies like [REC] pretty much use the same style of film-making and they get a 95 percent approval rating on Rottentomatoes. I guess that's what you get when you sacrifice a good story for a movie pretty much built on fright-and-shock value. Oh yeah, look at this guy -- he's got a bite mark on his body from a supposed poltergeist, and that guy was just thrown across the room. Both elements were already used in the movie Poltergeist years ago. S***... Cloverfield took you through Manhattan. That movie had a story.

I don't mean to be rude here. I just think supposed documented footage on some weird s*** going on in your bedroom isn't as interesting as a monster attacking Manhattan that had a lots of theories surrounding its supposed origin. Paranormal Activity just doesn't look like it'll have that epic feel to it, know what I mean?

Cloverfield is decent, and for awhile was my favorite of the camcorder-style horror films, but I would say both REC and Paranormal Activity blow Cloverfield away in the tension department. The problem with all these films is the whole question of who would have the presense of mind to keep filming while crazy stuff was happening to them. In my opinion, REC and Paranormal Activity do the best job of presenting the feel of "actual footage". The news crew in REC is doing their job, and many times the camera in Paranormal Activity is either on a tripod or set down somewhere while it's filming. Yes, Cloverfield has a (somewhat) more complex story, but in a way that makes it less like watching real footage. I just saw REC a few weeks ago and loved it, but after seeing Paranormal Activity last weekend I have a new addition to the short list of movies that have actually scared me. I guess it all comes down to what you believe in. I believe in the existence of the human soul, so I believe in the possibilty of ghosts and spirits. Because of that belief, I find the idea of a giant monster attacking New York to be far less frightening than the idea of a demon stalking the house... even though I do think there is life elsewhere in space... possibly giant monster life that will one day land here and crush a major city. Cloverfield didn't exactly invent the camcorder movie either. The Blair Witch Project was out years before but was interesting more for the way it was made than any actual scare value.

well it depends on how you look at Cloverfield really ... its like an unanswered riddle. Is it a good film that leaves with to discuss thought-proviking points of view, or is it god awful lasy screen writing with terrible actors and so far out of belief its ridiculous.

I side with the latter, Cloverfield is ****!

however, this film looks pretty decent to throw on at the end of a house party or something, something good to get **** scared at with your mates!

I heard from a co-worker that it sucked so hard they walked out and asked for a refund. Despite that I went and saw it today and I'm glad I did. I thought it was pretty good, it was quite intense at times. The trailer kind of ruins some of the best parts though and there was a scene with a ouija board that was full of fail. Overall good movie though .

I agree with your co-worker. This movie gets the title of WORST MOVIE ever seen for me. Luckily I watched it for free and didn't pay for this trash. The worst part of the movie was that it wasn't scary at all.. it didn't even get my heart racing.. LAME.

It was creepy, not scary IMO. The trailer kind of ruined the only "scary" parts, but not sure if I would really call this a "scary" movie.

    It was ok.

    not really scary...
    good movie...
i haven not been scared in a movie since i was 13...
    silence of the lambs...
    genious movie...

this was much better then most horror movies nowadays though...

it focused on what fear really is... its the idea that something terrible is GOING to happen... most horror movies today are about panic... not fear...

so i give this movie a thumbs up
