Jailbreaking an iPod TouchHowdy.
I'm sure I've read that there are many threads on here about this topic, but I can't seem to find any at hand.
Basically, my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) is already jailbroken, but I wish to reinstall the system because when I go to open my videos on the device itself it just doesn't do it and even stops the track I'm listening to.
I'd preferably like to install the latest iOS version, and I found this article: Click
Is this article correct in how easy it makes it sound, or can anyone give me a relevant article/set of instrutions and software download to follow?
Thanks

Just connect it to iTunes and let it download the newest firmware. It should, in theory, just install as normal and thus removing the JB.

I've always considered jail breaking my iPhone 4, but I really see no need to. I have all of the apps I really need, and the only things that tend to cost me are games, which I rarely buy anymore. I've realized over the past few months that some games are just a bit.. too convenient and addicting. I recently deleted Tiny Wings on my iPhone for this very reason.

Anyone...
Recently my notification badges have stopped showing up for several apps, most notably, fb messenger and facebook. I've checked the settings for each in the Settings > Notification area, and both have badges set to ON. Any ideas?
-

Stupid question that needs to be asked: Have you tried turning notifications off and on again?
Second stupid question: If any of the notifications rely on an Internet connection do you have an active Internet connection?
-

Yes, and yes. I've went so far as to remove the apps, re-install them. I've reset all settings, etc. Banners work, alerts work, and sounds work. Badge icon notification doesn't.

Third stupid question: do you really have an iPhone or is this all in your head?

I think I'd totally purge it, install the latest OEM firmware, and then install the apps through the App Store. PITA, but there's definitely some cooties on that phone!
***
Current OSX utilities that I just ****ing love!
Jumpcut - I'm C&P crazy, so having an accessible history of everything is awesome (especially when I'm moving code snippets between machines)
Calendar for Mac - so awesome. It runs in the toolbar and accesses your iCal info, so you can a quick click/dropdown to view your appointments/schedule (not to mention a nice popup calendar for planning).
Both freebies.Last edited by [DT]; 02-07-2012 at 23:19.

Is there a way to restore OEM, and only restore my contacts and photos?

Since many of my tech purchasing choices have been processed and thought out in this thread, I thought I would post a link to Apartment Therapy that has featured a couple of my rooms (living room and office) today. Let me know what you think.

Ok, restored as new phone... used my same apple id, and let iCloud put the contacts on my phone. I stopped the sync to computer when it tried... so now I'm OEM + iCloud contacts. Seems good so far. Downloading apps from app store now.
[edit]
no go. I found a thread on macrumors that a couple people are also complaining of the issue that started around the same time mine did. Might just be an app issue, and nothing wrong with my phone at all.Last edited by F34R; 02-08-2012 at 00:53.

Very cool. Actually forwarded the link to the wife ("You know my online buddy who's my headphone consultant? Check this out")

OK, yeah, my Facebook badges are missing ... this morning I went into the app itself and there was 4 notifications (that should have shown on the springboard).
However ... Downcast, My AT&T and the App Store _do_ have badges/counters showing correctly.
Must be a bug up the ass of a few specific apps!
[edit]
FB badges are showing on the iPad so it appears to be iPhone specific for us at least. FYI, our phones are connected to wifi around the homestead (so not sure it's a cell vs. wifi thing? Though the cell is still running ...)

I have no idea what the notification thing could be about then. As DT says it must be some bug with those apps I guess.

You can watch a live Paul McCartney concert on iTunes/Apple TV tomorrow for free: http://www.macrumors.com/2012/02/07/...-and-apple-tv/
No way I can stay up to 04:00 to watch it but it should be awesome for those awake.

Tut, have you heard McCartney's new album? I haven't, yet. But I am probably going to order it.

No I haven't listened to it yet. Might Spotify it and check if I like it before buying it. I don't like his solo albums that much in general but I always enjoy his concerts since he usually plays a bunch of Beatles songs too and his solo songs are always listenable once but not always worth owning.

It is not on MOG, but I haven't checked Spotify, so I will give that a shot.
I have a few of his albums, but only the "Choba B CCCP" album gets much play. "Band on the Run" is decent, too. From what I have read, the new album has covers of old songs, which I think he does well. It is supposed to have a jazzier feel that his past albums. Not sure how true the rumors are, but it makes me want to check it out.
I also prefer his live stuff for the same reason you do.

I haven't checked Spotify either I just assumed it would be there
You could also do the 90 seconds per song preview in iTunes I just remembered. The rumors does sound good from what you're saying.

iMessage for the iPod touch doesn't send messages half the time. Also airplay on my new pioneer receiver is super easy to use and nice.
