@Tut and MjW, how long after ordering online did you receive your handset, was it actually 4 weeks?

@F34R, That's the trade off your going to have to live with, depends what your going to use it for really. If your going to use it for specific reasons where a Mac often beats Windows it'll be worth it. If your going to want it just for browsing the internet and maybe a few games, it won't be worth it. At all.

I'm still dying to get my hands on Logic as well as i find Serato SL works better with the Mac operating system and even then i'm still struggling to justify to myself why I need one, even though my needs fit it.

I don't know about ordering from apple. I pre-ordered mine from the carrier, and got it on launch day.

    Here's the difference:

    17" screen vs 15.4"
1920 x 180 vs 1680 x 1050 (this I can actually be fine with.. just the principle of it I guess)
    1TB hdd vs 500GB hdd
    GTX660M vs GT650M
    8GB RAM vs 4GB RAM

    $1250 vs $1899

If I upgrade some of the components that can match what I have now, it'll just increase the price!

Yeah, I know. I'm getting torn between the ideology of the "bang/buck", and the sheer obsessive desire to get a mbp lol. I used one at Best Buy today, and if I had the money, I would have gotten it today lol. ffs!! APPLE!!! lol

I'd buy a mbp, 4th gen ipad, and an iMac in a single day. lol

    I thought I asked but it seems I didn't.

In the past Apple offered both a HDD and an SSD in iMacs. It did work in the same manner as their Fusion drive right?
Now they just offer a hybrid drive that does the same thing?

It's based on their software. So, I'm going to say, "no". With it before, I'm guess all the data management between ssd and hdd were done by the users. Now, the OS will determine what goes on the SSD and what stays on the HDD.

Didn't they say it would work faster because they fused them together?

That's their advert term for the two single volumes being shown as one volume.

I admit that I have not read anything about it (only saw them talk about it), but does this mean that if the hard drive fails, you change it out and it will still work like a "fusion" drive?

Yes, but you will have lost all the data on the HDD if it fails.

This sounds like a better solution than what I thought it was. This way, you would not have to replace a drive that contained the SSD if only the HDD died.

It's basically them promoting the "software" base of something that has been around for consumers for a long time now. It is definitely good for those consumers that are looking for that kind of performance, that will automatically adjust to the most used apps, etc. It isn't new though, just new for apply to promote the "feature".

Right, I remember that now! Fusion isn't a hybrid HDD but the software managing the SSD and HDD.

I thought there was some similar functionality in the older iMacs as well? I guess I was mistaken. Didn't know you had to chose manually what to have in the SSD and what in the HDD.

So in reality the hardware configuration is more or less the same as last year's. A HDD and an SSD. The only new here is the Fusion software.

They definitely made is sound more glamorous than it actually is... I thought it was some type of hybrid design from their "fusion" description. Of course, that may be my fault since I was surfing the web while watching it.

Got some hands on time with a iPad Mini today. Stunning device, and the build quality is outstanding. It is simply a joy to have in your hands.

Its a shame that the iPod Touch 5G has only an A5 and 512 mbs RAM.
