I sold a collection of collectible Dan Simmons books on ebay. The guy I sold it to said the box had been beat up badly and split open and that four books were missing. A signed copy of Endymion, a signed copy of Children of the Night, a signed copy of Summer of Night, and a very rare first edition Song of Kali. Frickin' USPS must have dropped the box and somehow those four books are now gone. I had it insured, thankfully, due to the value of the books, but the fact that these books are gone for good is infuriating.

Dude that sucks. Is their no way tracking the path of the USPS where they took them and maybe that way you could find them.
They might have taken them for them selfs

ask if they have a GPS tracking service, if they do
you have a legal right to watch the tracking of the truck to locat your books

Here is the online insurance claim link:
http://www.usps.com/insuranceclaims/online/welcome.htm
There are other stipulations for filing online, so it'll be easier to just let him do it his nearest PO.
The person who has the package is going to need to make the claim because they have to physically take the package to the post office so they can inspect the damage and verify the claim.

why not. All services these days as i know have a GPS tracking service were the company can show to someone that have been wronged by the company
Also when you give a package to a company like usps you have an option to track it online. So it gets to were it ment to go

the tracking from usps consists of when it arrives at the post office when it leaves the post office to get to your local post office then when its out for delivery and when it has been delivered, gps wouldnt do much as usps can ind out what truck the package was on based on the tracking number/adress since there is usually only one mailman for each area.

even with more "sophisticated" tracking options from fed ex, etc., you can basically see detailed statistics of where it is....
left Aiken, SC
Arrived destination sorting facility Columbus OH
Out for delivery
Delivered
No GPS, and definitely NOT for USPS.

Yes. I've never heard of such a thing.
Like it was said, UPS and Fed Ex have pretty good tracking that works the way F3AR mentioned. USPS has crap tracking that never works.
Plus, the package was already delivered so who cares where his delivery truck is now? They don't know where the package broke, nor would they take the time to look everywhere along the whole path of the package.
They'd rather just pay him his money and be done with it.

Funny thing is, you send anything through Royal fail / Mail, the recipient wont get them

guys. It was an option i was giving him
Sorry if it was the wrong one. I know the whole GPS thing is not a option for all people and i never knew that USPS had crappy GPS and that is why i give him that option

Thanks to Spyrde/Sylar
