sup guys, recently got my motorola droid ( milestone ) and been adding a bunch of **** to it and what not and im not sure if anyone has this or not on theirs but you can get usb tethering from your android to mac / pc for free.
1. download pdanet from android market
2. install it
3. then click enable usb tethering
4. pop up will ask if u need to download it yes or no. select yes
5. select which OS your running and download
6. for mac users it will create a new connection port i believe it should be something like en3 or something like that and youll have to restart afterwards
7. once your back up go back to your phone and now go to applications---settings---usb debugging
8. you should have a little phone icon on your menu bar (mac users) and go back to pdanet and with the phone mounted to your mac click on usb tethering
9. once its connected click on the phone icon and select connect and shazam, 3g internet connection speed on the go.
btw i wrote this from memory so sorry if its not 100% accurate but its real easy to follow the steps. if any questions just post...
im trying to bump this thread back to life. so ya

Does anyone know how to create a 1:1 disk image of an Android phone? I am taking a forensics course and our final project involves creating tools to recover information from a suspect's Android based phone, however to do this we need to be able to create a 1:1 image of the phone's disk for baseline comparisons. Also would the image be loadable into AVD?

There's an app for flash/reflash I saw on XDA here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459830
I believe that's how many folks are getting a reference image for "cooking". I created an AVD from scratch when I was checking out some of the Android SDK, but I don't know if the resulting Nandroid image is convertible/loadable into the emulator[?]
Good Luck!
BTW, that's an interesting project - one of our core products is in the evidence/property management area, and we interface with a number of forensic apps, including digital property (hashed/checksum images from suspect computers, etc.)

I see Google without much fanfare released the 3G/AT&T version of the N1 (vs. the previous Edge/voice variant).
Currently it's not being offered as a subsidized purchase, so I'm in a holding pattern (not paying full price), but I suspect when that happens, I'll make the move. I had considered waiting for the next iPhone, but since we already have one, this would make for better diversity.

Im still holding out to see is the rumors are tru that ATT will be getting the Desire.
/droolsPCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

Alls I know is the first thing I want to buy this summer (aside from 3D Dot Game Heroes) is an Android Phone. Hopefully there'll be some Nexus One news for Canada by then.
Then I want an Ipad

Only thing holding me off from getting an Android phone is the lack of NZ specific apps.
The iPhone has a lot related to TV listings, weather, marine reports, movies, restaurants etc.
As far as I know Android has the grand total of Zero.
Love the Sony Xperia X10 though, would definitely grab it if the apps were worth it..
That and a lot of mates in Aussie have an iPhone so can Ping them for free and save $50 a month texting them.

I have G1 on contract atm, it's up in September so I'm going to be wanting a new Android phone, the G1 is just too outdated now, it's big, impractical and lacks the tech specs alot of the newer phones have.
Anyone recommend any phones? The Xperia X10 looks really nice but do you think there selection of phones out in September will be dramatically different? I want something slim with a good camera and a preferably a keyboard but can sacrifice for a good touch screen.

Cnet have just posted a video review of the X10.
Typical none iPhone review, WANTING to dislike it, nitpicking at the most pathetic of things.

I have the Hero, were waiting for the Desire, but think I'd rather wait for the Supersonic. Give the Supersonice Android 3.0

Has anyone tried Messagenow? Does it work internationally? How does it work when texting the iPhone.
My main reason for holding onto the Iphone was because of Ping. I have a lot of mates in Australia that have it and it's great texting them for free.
However if the Messagenow application is just as good, I will very seriously look at the Sony Xperia X10 once they update OS.
