I wasn't sure how to word the thread title, so I'll explain more here:
I'm eventually going to get FFVII but if I already have a save file of FFVII (from the actual physical copy) will there be two different saves meaning that I would essentially have to start my game over on the PSN copy of FFVII because the save file for the PSN title is different than the PS1 save file?

I believe so because this is how currently PSP titles are handled, it is different from the originals (by "Product ID").
PSP titles that are bought online from the PSN cannot play online with other UMD PSP players, and vice versa... I would believe the save files would also not be cross compatible with PS1 Discs and PS1 PSN releases.
However, that said, I don't know this for sure.I am a moron. Do not argue with me because I will drag you down to my level and win with experience

All save files from PS1 games go to a virtual memory card in your save files folder under the game tab of the XMB.
To copy the save over you just plug in your PSP, and go to the save file inside the game saves folder. Press triangle and copy to the PSP. Your PS3 will convert the save file for you to one the PSP can recognize.
I did this with my FFVII when purchased it.

Ok, thanks everyone.
At least I won't have to start the game over when I purchase the PSN version. Of course I'm not that far into FFVII anyway.
