Left 4 Dead 2 Sales Explode Over Holiday Week

Left 4 Dead 2 Sales Explode Over Holiday Week

Valve promises to have DLC news for us all very soon, too.

    by Jim Reilly

US, December 1, 2009 - Fans can't seem to get enough of shooting zombies.

Valve Software announced today Left 4 Dead 2 has sold over 2 million units worldwide since its release just two weeks ago. The company points out these results are for retail copies only, and not digital copies downloaded from Steam, making this news even more impressive.

"Left 4 Dead 2 is off to a great start with strong support at retail and great reviews from the press," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Meanwhile the title has already been played by over 1 million Xbox LIVE Gold account holders, and news regarding L4D2 DLC 1 is coming very soon."

The company says the stronger than expected sales were spurred by the Black Friday holiday shopping frenzy.

To date, Left 4 Dead 2 has already outsold the original game released one year ago by more than double, according to Valve.

Could you imagine how many units Killzone 2 would of sold if on 360!

I don't think it will sell that well.

I meant if it was a 360 exclusive rather than PS3 exclusive! Imo it would of been hitting 5 million right now! Especially as L4D 2 is at 2 million already (close to Killzone 2 sales)

The exclusive thing is irrelevant. MW2 is not even exclusive yet sold millions.

If it's already beaten the original, then it must have sold more than 2 million on Steam.Last i heard it was 2.5 million on retail alone.
