This game will support voice commands. Socom anyone?
Yell Better With Gears of War
While Gears of War designer dude CliffyB doesn't seem like a screamer, that doesn't mean he isn't keen on making you one. The game takes advantage of the 360's mic support so that players can shout commands and keep in constant contact, along with a voice recognition system and real-time lip syncing. That means, it will appear as though in-game characters are actually hollering. NOW THAT IS A REALLY COOL FEATURE!

Ya this feature was plugin on Unreal Tournament 2004 for PC players, but it wasn't the greatest feature and not many users use it.

^^ Voice commands have been out for a long time. I played "Rebel Moon Rising" in 1997 and it had a decent voice command system. Look at the system requirements for that game
:
Anyways, it's a cool feature if they do it right.Intel Pentium Processor with MMX Technology, Windows 95, 16 MB RAM, 35 MB available hard disk space, 4X CD-ROM, 16-bit PCI video graphics card

Yeah, if this is applied right and not some cheap add-on, it could definitly be a bonus.

Wait...I think what they meant was, that the co-op online mode where you have your buddies with you (human), this game features a mode where if they yell in the mic, not only will it sound as if the characters were talking like you would in a game (which would mean that you may have to turn down your volume of your TV since some people talk vulgar) but it will also do lip-syncing to what they're saying!
Now THAT is a coolass feature if I'm right.

I think implementing a voice command system into gears of war might actually be really cool. I could see my self getting more into the game more by yelling at the stupied A.I. to get cover.
Please don't interpert this post as a negative post, I meant for it to be positive, I actually like the idea of the voice command system, I just think that the A.I. is going to be stupid, like ever other game ever made.
On a side note, anybody remember the game seaman. It was like the only game that I wanted to play on the dreamcast. That game was all about voice interaction. Never played it, but I heard good things about that game.

See, why would they mention lip-synching, I think it'll be like what I was saying in my previous post...because if it is the old voice-command thing, it's not that big of a feature then...but that's why I think it is what i described above because that's worth mentioning seperately.

Yea but you know what, you guys are not looking at the context here. Lip-synching would be UBER COOL in an online co-op campaign mission. Do you realize what I mean? In a multiplayer game, you don't have time to look at your buddy's lip-synching but when you're making a plan in a co-op campaign, the lip-synching will be very cool and immersive.

That actually sounds kind of cool, although I think lip-synching would work better in an FPS, it would still be very interesting to see how they will manage to pull it off in co-op mode...(wow this is like the first interesting thing I see in GeoW)

Voice recognition hasn't caught on because it's not reliable, and not versatile enough. However UE3 seems to be employing a genuinely good voice recognition system (see my thread in the PS3 Discussion forum), and if it proves to be a dependable method of input and not too expensive to implement then it'll become standard pretty quickly.

07-03-2006 #14I don't know, it would be kind of wierd to see a grown ass man, who looks like he can eat bullets for breakfest, have a voice of an 8 year old. Actually I would just keep on laughing at my tv, seeing a tough looking dude with a little girly voice. That actually sounds kind of cool, although I think lip-synching would work better in an FPS, it would still be very interesting to see how they will manage to pull it off in co-op mode...(wow this is like the first interesting thing I see in GeoW)

This cool new feature still doesn't win me over this game but I would love to see this feature implemented in future co-op online games
(SOCOM 4 ANYONE?)

No thanks . I've had Socom 1 and 2 and i've never ever used the stupid headset for voice commands . It was crap , not to mention i had to speak in a stupid American accent for the game to recognise my commands (felt like an idiot doing that) .
I'd rather have commands assigned to a button which is what i liked about Socom 1 and 2 .

07-04-2006 #18Even issuing commands through their little interface I thought was crap...

Think lipsynching with any real accuracy is asking for too much from any game, let alone one that can't even get foot placement animations correct for things like turning in circles. Sorry, GeoW is a very very pretty game, right up to the point it moves, then it takes a couple big steps back from the pedestal. Game has had animation issues since the very first version shown, and slow frame rates. I suspect the game is a bit too ambitiuous for where they are in the cycle.

Universal mode would work as it does now where people can just walk up to the game and start barking out commands.
But in profile trainer mode, it would show commands on the screen and you speak them 2-3 times so that it can come up with an average for calibration so it would work a lot better. This would help people with accents.
This way, your command pattern would be saved to your Xbox 360 profile on the hard drive or memory card and would work a lot better then a universal one.
First voice recognition I ever used was on the Apple IIe computer in the mid-1980's. It was a headset like the Xbox 360 with no speaker in the earpiece foam.
It played a blackjack game by voice. You had to train it first by saying all the words used in the game 3 times each. Then after saying all the words (hit me, double down, fold, etc), you could play the game. Worked pretty darn well for an 8-bit 1MHz computer from the 80's. :P

Voice commands didn't work for me in ut2004 as i dont speak with a "pure" english or american accent and thus it didnt recognize the voice commands.

Now if they make the voice recognition better for this game then i may just use these voice commands.

The original CS had lip sync when playing Online or on a LAN setup. CS:S doesn't though lol. I agree though it would be a cool feature, I mean there are people who'd like it and for me it's a great bonus.
