After three weeks of tirelessly working on a video tribute for my friends I was all excited to finally upload the finished product onto Youtube only to find out that my audio track gets disabled...
It's true, I'm using a song that is not my legal property but there are two inconsistencies that seriously bug me:
1. How did they find out? I renamed the song and deleted all relevant information about the artist etc.
2. Why are there thousands of personal videos floating around Youtube that all use official music tracks? Why are they allowed to use, say, Linkin Park in their videos while I'm not??

Youtube is one of those companies that is in collusion with the RIAA, and record companies to stop certain music or videos from being uploaded. It has everything to do with controlling the absurd copyright laws that give these companies unlimited dominion and time over said content and nothing to do with reasonable violations of the "Fair Use Act".

Any alternatives where I can upload my video instead without having to fear the same fate?

i used to wonder how they found the tracks so fast, but i know some videos have hidden digital watermarks that are damn near impossible to remove and give the video away as an infringement instantly. May be the same reason for your audio track, but thats all i can think of.

I'm guessing it was owned by Warner Music Group and you got a message saying "WMG" pulled it down or something similar? You have the option to add music from youtube's stock library..if that is not a good option I recommend using another song. (if you can)

They have software that "scans" the audio and compares it to copyright info.
What I thought was funny when I uploaded my youtube video of my playing GH: Metallica. They said the soundtrack was copyright violation! LMFAO. I disputed it and explained that it was the sound track of the game... it was allowed after that.

doesn't youtube have audioswap if they are being *******s and are taking off the sound? they did that with the PS2 TV spot I uploaded..they had the song in the audiswap library, but a much slower version..if only I knew about vidtomp3.com..I'd take it, and change the speed of it via audacity

I thought putting a brief disclaimer in the info page (or in one of those annoying pop-ups) saying ya know "Artist, Track Name, album, published" blah blah got around that whole copyright thing cos you are acknowledging the original authors work?
Dunno...I think I made that up.

They have a system that has the music tracks and if a video has that music track or is similar, it gets taken off. I'm assuming thats how they detect the music.
Some artists, publishers etc. probably don't mind which is why you see all the other music videos on there, or they've altered it enough to make it pass youtube (such as cutting off the end, or adding some small unnoticable effects during the song/music etc.)

I uploaded a few music videos and I get emails saying something about copyright but they don't do anything.
