THQ: Metro 2033 doing things on 360 never “done before”

    March 15th, 2010 @ 17:31
    By Johnny Cullen

THQ’s head of communications Huw Beynon has told VG247 that Metro 2033 will be setting a graphical standard on 360 that hasn’t been “done before”.
His quotes come as it was said recently by the company the game on 360 would reach a new graphical benchmark for consoles.
“The 4A Engine is a fabulous piece of tech,” said Beynon, “and you’ll see Metro 2033 doing things on the 360 that you haven’t seen done before. Personally, I think it looks incredible. But take a look, judge for yourself.
Speaking on the week of release for the 4A title, the exec said if you’re worried the PC version will be inferior to the 360 version, you have absolutely nothing to worry about, especially if the “Optimum” specs gave you a heart attack.
“PC is a another level again,” said Beynon. “I think we scared a few people when we suggested our ‘Optimum’ specs, but ‘Optimum’ means exactly that – the very best set-up for the very best quality and performance. Metro will run well and look great at the minimum spec, let alone ‘Recommended’ which is well within the reach of serious PC gamers.
“Then there’s 3D Vision implemented – Metro is currently NVIDIA’s poster child for their 3D tech, if you get the chance to see it you really should.”
Metro 2033 releases tomorrow in the US and Friday in the UK for PC and 360.

Meh. IGN gave the visuals a 7.5. I hope that isn't the case.

Yea they gave the graphics a 7.5 but other sites have scored the graphics better. The game has already got a 9 from one or two sites. Plus that review was from IGN U.K. The game seems to be impressive.

To me it reminds me of what happened in Resistance 2. Some parts were better than average, but some parts were plain ugly and unfinished. Eurogamer also reflected this by saying the game needed more polish. There are some great looking set pieces, but other areas are just meh. It looks like a good game with some great mood set by some great lighting. But the overall feel for some reviewers is lagging. I might end up getting this for the PC though where they said the controls were clearly meant for a mouse a KB setup.

Been getting great scores and the video's i have seen the graphics look immense!

Eurogamer complained about lack of ammo but i can live with that as it adds to the intensity of the game (Dead Space)

I remember the moment it happened with me and Metro 2033. I hit the Back-button to check my objectives and was surprised to see my character, an everyman named Artyom, pull out a physical clipboard with notes scribbled on it and a built-in compass. Not only did I need to pull the Right-trigger to look at it, I needed to pull the Left-trigger to ignite a lighter because the dim glow of the Moscow subway tunnels in which much of the game takes place wasn't enough to read by.

It was a little thing, but such a clear indicator that this was a game Ukranian developer 4A Games had put its heart in to and, in a sense, it gave me permission to put mine in as well.

Not surprised. The developers are just making bold statements in order to market their game. Typical PR.

This game reminds me of the Stalker series over on the PC.
