I waiting until my thermal paste arrives until I look up youtube vids on how to fix mine, but you're all mentioning solder. Is it on a bed of solder? Is that why you need the heat gun? I have a soldering iron, would that do?

Why not just hold eject button down, turn on, keep it held till disc comes out and your PS3 is now a 300 hairdrier!

Worked on both my 60GB and 40GB when they died!

    Simplez!

Btw: None of these "fixes" will last longer than a few weeks! FACT!!!

This is interesting. Might try this on my defunct 60gb with MC:LA in the drive, once I get back home.

Wow hair dryer fix please take the console to a proper repair shop. If your goal is to actual use the ps3 for anything other that a hair dryer or toaster oven after you are done with it The melting Point of lead free solder which is used in all current electronics is 217 c i dont know of any hair dryer that gets that hot. This is on the same level as the towel trick for the xbox.

Mine was still going strong 3 months after I reflowed it, FACT!

I traded it in for a slim tho, but most likely the person who bought has had the YLOD by now.

FFS...I just got the YLOD this morning.
Turned it on about 10 times after taking out all USB attachments & it kicked back into life.
I said, "Oh well." and started playing MAG.....the bassa just kicked the bucket again & this time for good.
The disc isn't a big deal....its only MAG ffs lol. But I have about 5 levels half created in LBP & not published....so Im close to tears atm.

I should have realised when it started throwing fits when trying to read discs over the last 2-3 weeks.
    Oh well......can anyone lend me a hair-dryer?

10mins it lasted after doing the hairdryer treatment twice. Ill not do it again. Enough time to get disk out and copy saves so worth a shot if you need that just.

Anyone tried the hair dryer trick? Which is just wrapping it up in towels and unleashing a hair dryer on it for 15 mins.

All I want is to revive it for an hour, after that I don't care.
