In all seriousness, that is fantastic. I'm joining the PSP community with this game anyway

I've been debating whether or not to get this game. I was pretty impressed with the demo and thought the controls were fluid. I dunno, I guess it depends on if I have the money.

yes *****es
best MGS right here
Comments included:
Single player is consistently thrilling and totally absorbing.
During co-op play, while the feeling of tension is reduced because you have friends with you on the mission, the game does manage to create a strong sense of togetherness.
The story and cut scenes have a charm, making the game feel like an "evolved" Metal Gear Solid.
The Mother Base portion of the game is deep, and it's impossible to stop sending POWs over via balloon. The balloon system will make it so that you won't want to kill enemies -- which is the actual aim of the series.
Some of the actions are missing, but the confusion clears once you get used to it.
Controls during battle are complex, but you'll get used to it.
Menus are well designed and easy to use.
The magazine's review blurb also mentions a 30 to 40 hour play time to clear just the story.

I don't know what happened to my battery... it was working just fine when I was playing FFVII on it, finished that back in September, just noticed that it had a terribly short battery life when I started replaying GOW for GOWIII's upcoming release... now I am playing FFVIII with it always plugged in(can't stand the way that PSOne classics look on my HD TV, can really see the polygons...

I bought a PSP years ago and never really played it much. But I am now with FFVII, FFVIII, and Grandia. And I will be purchasing this game as well.

Question: I am an MGS fan, should I buy Portable Ops or is that just an unimportant spinoff?

I'm going to give up my old school emulators for this (will obviously have to have the latest firmware).
Another thing I love about what they are doing is that if you play through the levels again, the placements of the soldiers will be different, and the equipment that you've gained will unlock newer areas that were not reachable in the first playthrough. There are a LOT of features that aren't being done on next gen systems that this game is offering. Day one for me. There's a LOT of depth to this title. And I actually love it that you can go through this and not kill people.

Just like Peace Walker, Portable Ops is an actual part of the main series and not a spin-off; it provides actual information corresponding to the later games of the franchise. I'd recommend it, but make sure you try out the demo first to get a glimpse of the contol scheme; I hear it's different then Peace Walker's. Also, don't confuse Portable Ops with Portable Ops+. Portable Ops+ is an expansion of the original Portable Ops, but doesn't include the actual storyline.
Here's the chronology of the games:
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 4Most Anticipated Games of 2010: Valkyria Chronicles II, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Red Dead Redemption, Transformers: War for Cybertron, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Resonance of Fate, L.A. Noire

- 'You can do pretty much anything, and testing all of that took time.
You can just play through the story if you like, but there are a ton of missions and just an amazing amount of weapons you can make'
- 'The story isn't over just because you beat the game once.
I can't go into details, but a lot goes on right at the end, and you might wind up crying over it, even.'
- The same goes for Briefing Files, the recordings of the assorted conversations Snake has with his friends via wireless communicator - 'The conversations are all taped, and there's about eight or nine hours of it all told.
You can play the tapes while sitting on the train or something, like you were listening to a radio drama. You can learn about how Snake and Miller first met, too, so you could wind up crying while you listen to it."
Really, I just want people to try it out, to give it a play.
Some aspects of it are experiments for the future, but I think the core game design is as true as it's ever been. In my mind, I've got the same 'Now I've done it!' feeling going that I had when we made the very first Metal Gear.'

I bet the "Now I've done it!" feeling is because he wasn't pressuring himself this time from the limitless potential of the PS3. Since PSP would be a narrower scope, I'm betting it allowed him to make his goals more realistic and attainable this time.
As for the recorded briefing files, I'm sure this is from his early days of being interested in doing radio drama with Metal Gear.
As odd as it may sound, PSP most likely allowed Peace Walker to be a better game.

I played the Peace Walker Demo. Is it possible to move bodies after you knock them out? (I really haven't played Metal Gear Solid on the psp before)

Unfortunately I can't help there, but I don't see why not, Firefox. You could do it in every Metal Gear since MGS2.

40/40? That's pretty impressive (assuming the review wasn't paid for).
While all of those extra features sound nice, I really only play MGS titles for the atmosphere and storyline (only after these are established can I truly enjoy the gameplay. This is why I never recommend Portable Ops to people; the game just feels dead). In that sense, MGS1 is still unrivaled.

"Everything that has ever happened has been leading up to this very moment"
"What happened to bros before hoes?" "Well, this one isn't a hoe, so she's first."
