360 vs. High End PC (7900GTX)

I found this gamespot comparison interesting as the 360 was out performed by a high end pc runnning a 7900GTX
It had a core exteme 2 though didn't mention ram, it still is good to see that a pc running a miried of background applictions can out peform a 360 and this shows a good deal of promise for the PS3

You do know, that the PS3 would fare no better?

Why is this in the PS3 section in the first place?

    7900GTX>RSX

    Comparing a port is dumb

If you watch all 3 comparisons you will see that the texture detail in the xbox360 is the same as the low spec pc. Diference is lightning and some other effects.

Shouldn't this be in the 360 section?

Any way, I wouldn't use Prey as the best example of the 360's power but I suppose it does highlight the differences in performance that you will get from this generation of consoles.

As I've said before, if you want the best visuals and processing power, get a PC.

Actually I found that the Low end PC was noticeably lower quality, it looks more like mid end textures are being used for the 360.

Unfortunately a lack of any decent AF makes the 360 version look worse than it needs to be.

I think MS and ATI should have put more effort into making the system able to provide good levels of AF as you can see in the mid and high end screens the detail in the distance isn't even comparable from the xbox with no AF to the pc with AF on, anything in the distance is a blurred mess on xbox and crystal clear on the pc. AF has hardly any performance hit on my pc (well nothing to lose any sleep over) and imo makes a huge difference to games, if I can notice the lack of AF on my 21" monitor I'm sure as hell gonna notice it on my 40" HDTV.

At the end of the day though there's no messing with drivers on consoles and the games are guaranteed to work and ofc a high end graphics card alone costs more than any console.

7900GTX has 512MB of VIDRAM. If its a 7900GT then it has 256mb. I should know, because im going to get a new dell XPS m1710 laptop that has a 7900gtx

It doesn't matter if the PC had a core 2 extreme,it could still outperform the x360 with a low 805D dual core, even a P4 3.2 would be more than enough...This CPU's are powerful enough to run every game so far.Probably is because its a port. They didn't take advantage of the GPU,or the GPU isn't as good as we thought.Who knows...we'll see in the future.
Good "night" my baby...i will always remember you.I love you.

Well, then it's going to be shared RAM so it's not really 512MB of Video RAM.

unless the archetecture between pc's and consoles change dramatically, pc's will always be just as good or better than any console.

these companies push the newest greatest most expensive technology as soon as they can, if they hold back they lose money. consoles try to get the best tech they can so their console will still look decent at the end of its life cycle. pc's are constantly being upgraded, there really is no comparison.

i already knew that MY pc is just as good as a 360, but the price is very very different.

Coke, space, technology, cell, sony, playstation.... ALL ----AAA---

This just goes to show the memory advantage that PC's have. More memory allows for higher resolution textures and better filtering.

More memory = Higher res textures?

Tell that TO PS2 and X-Box

Would using a Hard Drive allow Higher-res textures? Because this could be a factor making PC better

Yes, the original X-box used the HDD for cache hi-res texture's. Good thing PS3 has a standard HDD

The PS3 has a HHD as standard as well. I have a feeling that the best devs will use this to get the texture detail up.

Yea, try playing any PC game. More GPU memory = higher res textures without a huge performance hit.

I didnt even have to insinuate that i was talking about the ps3 and people got it :P hehe
I dont get why they didnt include at least a small HDD to the 360 simply for the devs to use for caches. Well maybe i do. (cost)

dont think that a hard drive on ps3 is going to make that much of a difference. it might help sligtly but not much. PC games have been caching textures etc on hard drives for years, it still doesnt do much if you want the best graphics, you need lots of ram and gpu ram etc.

No I am not dumb, but continue making an ass out of yourself.

Since you seem to be implying that you are not dumb and no quite a bit about how GPU's work, please tell me what all that memory in modern GPU's is used for.
